My seed stock was getting pretty old since the last growout in 2010. These are the ones I put in a paper towel to check germination rate. I had remarkable germination rate, so I planted my sprouted seed. I think there's between 8 and 10 plants.

I meant to add that Big Boy looks just like plain ol blackeyes except they are big and fat. Maybe twice the size of normal black eye.

brownrexx, Me too. I've never grown such a small amount before, so I guess we'll see. Also, I had three different types germinating so I only had about 10 of each type. I put these in the area I used to garden, I put the Red Ripper in Mom's little garden area and the Ozark Razorbacks over where I used to cook outdoors with the Dutch Oven. They are good ways away from each to help them keep from crossing.

Yay, hairymooseknuckles ! This is the first year I grew crowder peas, and I have really enjoyed them! Grew up eating them but never had the room to grow them till this year! I will be experimenting with more varieties in the coming years. Keep us posted! I've grown all three in years past and I can tell you, Ozark Razorbacks are one of my favorite Cowpeas. They are very different from blackeyes. Now don't get me wrong, Blavkeyes are awesome too, I just really love the OR's. I've been told Red Ripper is real close to Bisbee. I can't say for sure because I haven't grown Bisbee, I'be had seeds in the freezer, for years and it's on my list to grow one of these days. I collect cowpeas like I collect everything else. I eventually get around to stuff, it sometimes takes me years though. my wife says I need a dedicated freezer for seeds. hahahaaa! I'm not kidding, she actually told me that.

I like eating blackeye peas but have never grown them. My sister grew them this year and says they're delicious. Might get some seeds from her.

I like eating blackeye peas but have never grown them. My sister grew them this year and says they're delicious. Might get some seeds from her. I'm going to make a suggestion. The only reason being taste. I would recommend Pinkeye Purple Hull. They have a six week version, but I haven't grown it. I just Grow the regular ol version. The reason I suggested those to you is because most people think of California Blackeyes when they think of BE peas. There's nothing wrong with them, but I think the purple hull taste better.
