Ciao all-
I know we're veggie-growing people, but I bet lots of you have fantastic flower gardens as well. What annuals do you start from seed and how do you integrate your flowers in with your vegetables?
I have these started:
Calendulas Bachelor Buttons CA Poppies Scabiosas Zinnias Nemophilas Cerinthe 4 O'Clocks Thunbergias Everlastings Gem Marigolds Portulacas Salpiglossis
I have these to sow still:
Cosmos Nasturtiums Sunflowers

I always have lots of annuals, and seldom plant any because they reseed so readily. I grow zinnias with my vegetable garden (helps attract bees & butterflies), ALwAYS have sunflowers of all kinds-Such a happy flower. Salvia, petunias, vincas, black-eyed susan vine, Mexican Sunflower (tithonia), wishbone flowers, nasturtium, moss rose & marigolds.

Dianthus. Oh my Lord do I love Dianthus. It's a long, undying love affair. My "annual" Dianthus came back again this year so I'm growing that! And I bought some more and my mom bought me even more so I have a lot of Dianthus right now!
I plant other annuals: portulaca, alyssum, geraniums (in pots, how original!), salvia, gomphrenia (sp?) to name a few.
But Dianthus has stolen my heart. (It's not all bad, it stole Thomas Jefferson's heart, too.)

Echinacea babies started last year went out to field last fall are waking up.
My one little seedling rosa rugosa that is to field is waking up, but is overshadowed by a much older foundation rose. This is usually a tank of a rose (as in unkillable). Time'll tell if it can swim in the deep end of the pool.

Zinnias and coneflowers in the veg garden. Otherwise, I'm focusing on perennials, both for sun and shade.

Nice variety, Sorellina. But I can't imagine anyone starting calendula in the house. It is a weed - a beautiful weed that I am glad is all over my veg. garden, but a weed nonetheless!
I've started Tashkent #1 Marigold and was wondering if anyone here has ever grown it.
