I imagine that doesn't make the japanese beetle happy either "okay who did it? phew". Your stink bugs must be slow, ours duck and run.

I have two main pests. Green stink bugs is one of them. I've been using natra soap on them but i might try this spray just for some variety.

Yes, Red and Izit, I did use it on maters. Closing one eye and wincing at first, but with abandon later. I never saw signs of TMV either. Not saying it won't show up at some point, as I plan to continue to use this particular brew. I do remember hearing on the forums (possibly from Train? I can't remember for sure) that the old timers used this brew and they would boil it first to supposedly counteract the potential for TMV.
I also used it on peppers, squash, melons of both types and Armenian cukes. The Leaf Footed Plant bug likes these as much as maters. The stink bugs at my place tend to favor maters more than any of the others.

When Red says SVB he's referring to Squash Vine Borer moths.
They're fairly tricky to hit, but I did hit a few using a pump sprayer. Some managed to fly off, hopefully to succumb later. Some did drop dead on the spot, and a few managed to fly off 50 or so feet only to fold up and drop like a stone.
I did a few happy dances this spring. I may actually dislike SVBs more than stink bug types. It's a hard call.

Question? Does this tend to clob your sprayer? I might have to put the cigarettes in a cheesecloth bag to avoid grinds clogging the nozzle. Also has anybody tried pipe or chewing tobacco? That would be cheaper what with the tax on cigs. I told my Aunt Vivian about this and her comment was " That ought to be a judgement to smokers!" In other words they ought to learn from the stinkbugs misfortune. As a sidenote she loved the Illinois squash from the seeds that I gave her.

Any tobacco would do the trick. Definitely filter the tea well. Growing your own is even cheaper than plug, but takes longer.

Gcg,
Grunt is right. I used some type of cigarillo cigarette that was the absolute cheapest the store had. It was in the area of $2/pak vs. the $4/pak of cigerettes. They appeared to be more of a cigarette shaped cigar than anything.
I don't steep the mix in the sprayer. I use a cleaned-out plastic gallon milk jug to make the tea. Then I strain into the pump sprayer. So I haven't had any clogs.
One of these days I'm going to have to take a stab at growing some tobacco, as I understand it smells wonderful growing. And if it gives some bug protection, great!

Yeah I just saw a can of "dip" at $1.66 versus $3.65 for cigs. I think I'll try to make a cloth bundle for the steeping jar next time and see if the store has any stale copenhagen to use.

It smells even more wonderful drying in a tobacco barn on a warm fall day!! Nothing I enjoyed more growing up on the farm than playing hide and seek on the many rafters of drying tobacco. The smell is absolutely wonderful!

This is great info to know! We didn't have a huge problem with stinkbugs last year, but enough to make me mad at 'em. Thanks for the added info on how you did yours, txdirtdog.

Normally I hand pick the stinkers if I only see a few, and then spray when I see a number. I also used this as a "line of sight" spray. I'm not sure how long it would be viable as a residual type spray. (I also liked using it as a "line of sight" product so as to not nuke the patch with more than is needed and also not waste the spray). Good luck if you try it.

Same thing I've been doing...hand picking those little stinkers off...ha! Your line of thinking is much like mine...I don't want to waste anything or spray more than is needed. Grunt, those are some beautiful tobacco plants!

Stinkbugs love sunflowers. If you plant a few sunflowers the stinkbugs will concentrate on them and you know where to go spray. You can really whack down on the numbers that way.

Hey Red a little bit of sugar helps the medicine go down! And Ciggycide is the only thing those nasty cancer sticks are good for. Because if it kills bugs dead who would willingly put it in their body?

I had forgot about that method, I wonder if you have to cure your tobacco plants before you use the leaves for pesticide? I noticed that while the plants were growing aphids and other chewing and sucking bugs had there way with the still green leaves, that's not to say that the bugs didn't crawl off some where and die, I had one type of tobacco that was extra potent and it was covered with aphids. So I guess the leaves have to at least dry before it can be used that way. I quit smoking ten years ago, but my neighbor has a buck of stubs on his back porch man they really stink. George W.
