Did you save room for dessert?
What is your favorite dessert after the Thanksgiving meal?
Pumpkin pie is my favorite but it has to be home made with home made crust.

Desserts are not a priority for me, but the wife has to have a little pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

There is always a wide selection at the clan feast so the best homemade one that isn’t too sweet. Hmm, Lynette’s blueberry cheesecake, Darla’s buttermilk pie, Grandmother’s orange coconut cake( she took the recipe to her grave), my New Orleans cheesecake and many more.

The most asked-for dessert in my clan is turtle mini-cheesecakes. We haven't started planning the menu yet but my oldest has already asked for them. DH and his dad like pumpkin pie, but no one else eats it much. (I think pumpkin pie is pleasant enough, but it's never my first choice.) Some years we make a pumpkin pie for them, and others not. Philistine that he is, DH likes Cool Whip better than homemade whipped cream! I am down for almost anything chocolate, but I also like a cherry pie every now and then, as long as it is not too sweet - I like to taste the tartness of the cherries, too. I like other fruit pies that have some tartness, too. But when it gets right down to it, the kids will eat almost anything sweet except for pumpkin pie or pecan pie.

The absolute best pumpkin pie that I have ever made is a butterscotch pumpkin pie, made with a true butterscotch, as well as served with a scotch flavored whipped cream. Almost everybody who has had this pie would be asking me to make it next year. www.bonappetit.com/recipe/pumpkin-butterscotch-pieAs I noted on another thread, I'm thinking of making a crême brulée cheesecake - something easier to make than the butterscotch pumpkin pie, and something different.

We seldom eat dessert after a meal. But love a piece of pumpkin pie with coffee later!

Did someone say... PIE!!?? We'll probably have a similar variety this year, though the mini creme pies in jars will be amped up a bit. They were definitely the hit of Pie Hour last year.

We've always been a pumpkin pie clan. And don't need any whipped cream on top, just plain. There will also be apple and blueberry pies plus various Jello-based desserts. I'll just save room for the pumpkin and some green delight that a cousin always brings.

ladymarmalade, you are the PIE Queen! I am so glad that I am not invited to your celebration because I would probably eat myself into a coma with wanting to try them all!

ladymarmalade, I have never seen the mini creme-pie-in-a-jar before. What a cool idea!

ladymarmalade, I have never seen the mini creme-pie-in-a-jar before. What a cool idea! It's the perfect way to scale back the volume of a serving. It's so hard to slice creme pies into small slices. I take each pie recipe and divide it among 12 4-ounce jars. They were really fun to eat, and then we just tossed them all in a tote and ran them through the dishwasher later. I did something similar at Christmas time for a fundraiser bake sale, only I used disposable cups, and then covered them with press-and-seal wrap.

Coconut Creme, Oreo Creme, and Chocolate Creme, only I have turned the chocolate creme into a S'mores pie by leaving the whipped cream off the top and instead giving it a layer of marshmallow fluff and toasting it with a torch. Last year I also made Key Lime Pie and Lemon Meringue in the mini jars. I'll not be making the lemon meringue this year. Two years in a row no one has touched it, so I'm on the prowl for something to replace it. I'm leaning towards a Banana Creme. I made a peanut butter creme once and that was amazing, but we have a severe peanut allergy in the family now so that is a no go.

I found a recipe for a pumpkin cheesecake that I am going to try this year. That should satisfy my wife's craving for pumpkin and be something I may get a taste of.

That's another one I made years ago...maybe I could make that one, and top it with the caramelized sugar. That was the largest cheesecake I used to make (haven't made it for a long time) - 2 1/2 lbs cream cheese to a pound of pumpkin, so it's mainly cheesecake, and made in a 10" cheesecake pan. It is one that always baked without cracking, which makes it good for the crême brulée.

pondgardener, I have never actually made a pumpkin cheesecake. Having an entire cheesecake in the house would spell disaster to my diet/healthy eating. I have very little willpower so I usually get one slice at a local restaurant and that's it. I love the idea of a layered cheesecake. I think that would be superior to one that is all pumpkin.
