Has anyone grown these? I planted ever single seed and I bought 1/4 and not one has sprouted. Everything else has popped up. Should I give them more time or just replant?

Not sure what the variety I planted, but only two came up in the row. Have to check what they were. Been in the ground about three weeks and the two that came up are about four inches tall. Will replant tomorrow and see what happens.

Provider is a good one. May have some from a mixed bush packet right now. But this has been a strange year for germination. Some had only 2 or 3 out of 24 but one lima has all up. Replanted 3 varieties of pole snap. One came up in about 4 days!

we grow provider/ how long have they been in the ground? have you given them a 5 day chance? or when did you plant them? if it was during the cold snap or the ground was still cold they may have rotted. dig a few of them up and look to see what they are doing.

I planted them at the same time as everything else and everything else is like 3 inches tall all ready. Planted like a week ago? I sent a message to Reimer to see if they had any idea. They are issuing me a refund. I don't want a refund, I want to know the issue is and I want my beans to grow I will have to do the dig one up thing that carolyn, mentioned.

I also had trouble with bean germination this season. The temperature 5" deep was 65 - 68°, when I planted the first batch, and after about 2 weeks, only 1 seed, of 6 varieties sprouted, a total of at least 36 seeds! So I re-planted a bunch of them 5 days ago. Today, I saw at least 6 new sprouts.
I also planted some blue lake bush beans 5 days ago. I normally don't plant bush beans, but I got these as a "gift" in an order, and I thought that I'd try them now, since I have the raised bed, which will make harvest easier.

This sounds like a recurring theme with all of us spike, so I doubt that anything was wrong with your seeds. My bush beans also had very poor germination and when they did emerge the slugs went after them and I had to use organic slug bait. I planted my Lima Bean seeds about 2 weeks later than the bush beans and they germinated well so I think that maybe the cooler soil temperature played a role in the poor germination.

My bush Roma II plants had poor germination, but the pink tip greasy beans and white half runners had good germination. I grew Provider last year. It produced a bountiful crop, and was stringless, but I didn't prefer the taste. I just like my white half runners too much, I guess. :-) I'll gladly do the work of the stringing to get the taste I'm after.

This just totally confounds me. I planted all the beans at the same time. I could live with 'poor' germination but the Provider did NOTHING. Not even one germinated. Everything else is a good 3 inches tall.
I had sent an inquiry e-mail to Reimer to see if anyone else had an issue. They sent me a 10 question survey on how I planted them. I sent back my answers and they refunded my money.
Okay fine! But not one out of 1/4 pound of Providers germinated >,<
I know I keep repeating myself but this just blows me away. I didn't think it was possible to NOT grow green beans.

I just noticed a bunch more up out there today. I'm wondering is these are from the first planted seeds, or the re-plants. If its the first ones, yours still have a chance spike!

I had the same results with some pole lima beans I planted earlier this year - zip, zero, zilch, nada came up. That was a first for me, too. (And yes, it was plenty warm enough.)

It's interesting to see that so many had the same problem in different areas. I know that the soil and air temps were fine when I planted but had a downhill slide for awhile. Replants of the missing varieties have been fine. The oddity is that the one that is the fussiest had no problem. That was King of the Garden pole lima. Every one germinated.

I grow cherokee tears... They came up in 2 days!
I also grow yardlong beans, And they came up almost as fast.
My brown crowder? I didn't pick them right last autumn... I'm going to have to wait on the plants that self-sowed... and collect ripe peas from those to sow... Luckily, I can get like 3 or 4 generations of summer peas in a season...
Glad to hear that your beans are finally starting to come up, Spike... 1/4 lb seems like a lot of seed to sow and not get a crop...

Every bean and pea I planted came up, with two exceptions: early RomaII and pinto beans. Replanted Roma and had an amazing crop.

spike, just took a little longer. Maybe because the weather has been so weird. Who knows. Do you have a problem with slugs? Plan an early attack if you do.

Hope I didn't jinx you spike, I thought maybe last year when you had all that rain because I've never until this year when you sent us all your rain.

bestofour, I don't think I had slugs before even with the rains? But I honestly would have no way of knowing. We had so much rain that I couldn't even get out into the garden. Was a quagmire out there. That wet clay would suck you down and not want to let go.

spike, I didn't know that I had slugs either until I started finding round holes in all of my bean leaves. I Googled it and sure enough it was slugs but they only slither out at night so I never saw them. They are only 1/4" long anyway, so quite small. Slug bait worked.
