Not ground cherry. Leaves are close but don't recognize the dark stem.

spike Something happened with that first raised bed that I filled with a lot of compost, and some of the soil mix from my SIPs, when I replaced about 25% of the mix. Guess what I got from the compost? Literally hundreds of tomato seedlings! This was because a lot of last years plants had some bad tomatoes, during the times they had fungus (due to all that excess rain that came from your area! lol), and, while I trimmed off, and threw away the leaves, I tossed the bad tomatoes in the composter. When all those little seedling kept coming up, I realized that they looked familiar, and figured out why! Good reason not to compost tomatoes.

I've often got free or cheap broken bags of soil or compost from the Jung's garden center. The weed that most often shows up is nettles. Never any exotic weeds but strange new grasses sometimes. Brought more home on my shoes from the community gardens.

I have all sorts of weedy crap growing around here. I pull and pull and then next year some of it comes right back. I'm like you. Sometimes I'll find something growing in the middle of a shrub or even in the middle of the beans and it's as tall as me. I get stuff with thorns on it too. Just awful to pull out.

Spike, is that japanese knotweed? If it is, that is a truly major problem.

bestofour, you have weeds that just keep coming hack? There is a standard rule: "Leave once, weed for seven." There are some weeds where nobody knows how long that seeds remain viable. Unless soil is sterilized thee is a chance that there is a seed in it. Martin The truth is more important than the facts.

domination2580th, yep that would be the stuff. SO annoying cause the flowers are so pretty. Yeah they are, they get big really fast too. They have what looks like cockaburs that are green and those are three seed pods. Make sure they don't open and let the seeds fall.... very annoying and can be toxic.
