What was the best thing you've ever eaten, no matter where it was... home, restaurant... whatever and wherever ?

The best thing I ever ate was the cooked, hard vein of cabbage! I remember as a child sneaking under the table and sitting at my grandmothers feet. All the aunts and gramma would be around the table making golabki. Gramma would cut that vein off and sneak it under the table and feed it to me! Still makes my mouth water thinking about it <3

A simple pasta dish made with the best marinara tomato sauce I ever ate. Heavenly.

Many years ago DH and I went to Oahu, Hawai'i. On the ground floor of a skyscraper office building in Waikiki there was a Thai restaurant with a special fixed price three-course romantic dinner for a couple, which was based on duck. (Thankfully the dessert wasn't duck. ) The appetizer from that meal was the best thing I have ever eaten. It was a selection of different appetizers, actually. All of the appetizers were fantastic, but the best one was some sort of flaky pastry with a duck filling. It was not what I expected in a Thai place - to me it felt more like a French-Thai fusion dish. I can't remember the name of the dish or even the name of the restaurant. Not that the restaurant is likely to still be around all these years later. So even if I went back to Waikiki, there's no way I will ever taste that again. DH remembers the meal, too. He enjoyed it, but not as much as me. He remembers it more as one of the most expensive meals we have ever eaten.

That's sort of hard to narrow down, but if I had to pick the last dish I could eat, it would have to be one of those dishes loaded with chocolate!

No way I could pick just one thing.

Easy; A good cut of prime rib with the fat left on it.

Best thing is whatever was the last thing I had that filled me up. But there have been some great meals both here and abroad. Two most notable were in Durban, South Africa. One was tiger prawns from Mozambique. We have nothing like them in the US. A rack of lamb in Denmark was pure delight. The Christmas 1975 dinner on the British ship m/v PHEMIUS in Vancouver will never be forgotten. The NZ oysters in Bodega Bay were something to die for. All had super meat that one can't get every day.

I can't pick one thing either. When I'm really hungry, whatever I eat tastes like the best thing at that moment. There have been good meats, good desserts, good pasta dishes and of course, real mashed potatoes with gravy!
