Anyone here raise Serama chickens, the ones that do not get much larger than a pigeon?
The daughter in Mo raises both Seramas and Whiting True Blues. I have no idea how many True Blues but she bought four or five Seramas last year. She set three of the hens on their own eggs this Spring; one of the three had only two eggs under her and the daughter thought they were infertile.
While the Seramas were on eggs, the daughter hatched some True Blues in an incubator, then took the two "infertile" eggs from the Serama and put four True Blue chicks under her. The latest report is that the hen and chicks are all happy. The Serama rooster may ask some questions though.

Sorry I can't be of any help, but I have to say that those Those are such cute, tiny chickens! Does your daughter raise them as pets?

Laura; Seramas are good for nothing else. Too tiny, takes four eggs to make one of our store eggs. They are said to be people-friendly. The true blues are just layers, not setters, bred to lay blue eggs. They claim to be a separate breed, not Americaunas.
I was simply amused by the thought of that tiny hen raising four full sized chickens.

I put a duck egg in our turkey nest once. Luckily that I checked within minutes of it hatching because mama turkey was giving it the gimlet eye.

Update; The daughter kept her chickens behind electric netting in an otherwise open chicken house. As one might expect, power went out and a varmint killed all the Whiting True Blues. The tiny Seramas somehow got under cover and survived.
I had told this girl I did not trust electric netting----
All beside the point---I ordered an Omlet chicken house door for her. ======I think they come all the way from England.
