Yep... the lord was with her all she ended up with was her right wrist is fractured and bruised ribs. She swerved to keep from hitting Bambi (lol) and hit a freshly laid gravel roadside and it had quit raining about an hour before that so it was mushy red clay and it snatched the wheel from her and went down the side of an 100 year old oak tree and went straight into a telephone pole.

Wow! How scary for her! I'm so glad she is "okay" although she'll be in pain for a while. Is she in the hospital now? So sorry about your vehicle, hope insurance will cover it.
There are a lot of deer on our roads as well. Husband and son both have had hits, but nothing that could not be repaired. I've had close calls but no contact. A direct hit can be dangerous too, especially on a smaller vehicle. I was going to work early in the morning, following a car when a deer ran out from a thick treeline at full speed, no one had the reaction time to swerve or brake, it hit the windshield of the car in front of me and shattered it to pieces, luckily the deer did not end up inside the car. I never follow close, so I did manage to stop my car without rear-ending them. Luckily, the ladies inside seemed okay, but if that deer had run out just 3 seconds later, that would have been me. I can't drive by that spot without reliving it every time!

I once had to make that choice about hitting a deer hound, going right into a semi truck, or left into a median to steep to take without rolling and deep as a gulley with pine trees. Fido should have watched where he was running.

I'm glad she was somewhat OK - could have been a lot worse. And I agree - next time, hit the deer!

It is easier said (hit the deer) than is done...automatic reflexes take over. Glad the injuries were not too severe.

dld, I'm glad your wife is going to be OK. That's scary. I've had three bad deer hits and one that I bumped.
Around 1980, an elderly Mom of my old drummer was out driving and an oncoming pickup hit a deer through her windshield. That was that. Ten years later, a girl I met was driving her son to school and a car knocked a deer through her windshield. End of the line. Awful...
