Many, many years ago Tom Mickolas introduced a yellow tomato: From Tatiana's: Tom Micholas' mother and aunt initially bought a Wonder Light tomato at a roadside stand in West New York in 2004. Tom saved seed and planted it next year, but what appeared in his garden was not even close to the original Wonder Light. Tom's aunt learnt from the lady vending the tomato that her plants of Wonder Light were between rows of Pineapple and Persimmon, so there is a high probability that it was a natural cross of Wonder Light with Pineapple or Persimmon. As Tom shared the seeds with other tomato growers in New Jersey while the cross was still segregating, there have been reports of various segregations with pointed fruit (more like the original Wonder Light), bi-color fruits, and golden fruits. Tom continued stabilizing the cross in 2005-2008 while selecting for a 'true yellow' beefsteak with good flavor and heat tolerance. That tells the history better than I could. Anyway, Tom sent me some seeds. I have grown that tomato a bunch of times and never got a single fruit from a beautiful tomato plant...ever, until this year. This year two plants are in my garden and both have several tomatoes. These photos are of the first ever harvested from a Tom's. This one is just over a pound. I better save some seeds to continue the line directly from the first stabilized fruit. For maybe 15 years I have tried and tried to no avail to get a tomato. FINALLY, TOM I GOT SOME. Pretty yellow beefsteak with a slight red blush on the bottom. I will eat another one later to report on the flavor. I posted this story on a site I think Tom goes to every once in a while and here because you guys allow me to carry on with my wordy stories. Thank you!

I like stories like that. It’s why I’m a seed saver!

Interesting, paulf. I like wordy stories. Thank you. I remember when Tomstrees was getting his TYW out there. I'm not sure what generation I grew or even where I got the seeds. LoL. Looking forward to the rest of the report. 🍅

We cut open and ate a TYW tonight. Like a lots of pale yellow tomatoes this one did not have a tomatoey bite but was a sweeter taste with a bit of acid at the very end. Very meaty and solid textured with small seed cavities and very few small seeds. Even being solid and meaty it was quite juicy. A top yellow in my opinion. Not as fruity as several oranges but not really bland like a white or pale yellow. Very good addition to the garden and the tomato line-up. Different but nice. 7 of 10 from wife's point of view, 8/10 for me.
