Just got word our son is out of hip replacement surgery and despite the surgeon saying it was the worst hip joint he has ever seen (they do three or four per day on hip replacement day at the University of Iowa Hospitals) our son is doing well and should be back to normal after three months healing time.
After eight years of running 400 meter hurdles in high school and college and for the next ten years to relax, running and winning Marathons all over the US and being rated in the top ten nationally in his age group, his left hip which was genetically in bad shape anyway, needed a replacement. Best part will be no more pain. I would bet there will be no more hurdles or Marathons but then with that guy he may just start up again.

You never know, he might bounce right back. A superior athlete is different from your regular joe. I’ll bet he’s got a few more wins in him. Glad to hear he’s doing well. Give him a thumbs up from me!

Amazing...home and walking 24 hours after surgery. And the doctors have OKed running Marathons after the three month healing process. The kid is approaching 50; maybe he will slow down a little.

paulf, did your son have his incision posterior (on his side towards his back) or the new anterior (front incision) like my DH had?

No real idea what the procedure was. Next time we talk I will get the details.

paulf, my DH was so pleased with his hip replacement. He had the anterior procedure which is the newer style and he was up and about so quickly. 2 days with a walker, one with a cane and then back to normal with no physical therapy required. He is thrilled with his new hip.
