Are bay leaves one of those things in shortage in the markets? I don't think I'll have to worry about it! I trimmed the bay laurel, getting it ready to re-pot tomorrow. It was the worst one of the bunch out there, drying out quickly (in cool weather) after soaking the rootball, so it must be really badly rootbound. Only a couple years in the pot, but it's not a larger pot So I cut a large amount of the branches off - there might be a couple more I'll cut off -and tomorrow I'll re-pot it. No shortage of bay seasoning at your house! At times I have not been able to find bay leaves at the store, but they usually re-order in a couple of weeks. I will be repotting my bay tree tomorrow also! But mine is just a tall stick in a two quart pot, compared to yours. I had to mail order it and it was just a rooted little twig when it arrived. They do grow fast though, but the deer ate off the top half the first year it went outside. I had to top it again in the house last winter, because it grew so fast it bypassed the window ledge top and hit the ceiling. I love having unlimited fresh and dried bay leaves.

I pulled the pot off the BL today, and it was solid! Not as solid as the lime tree, which I had to cut off, but a photo shows the roots growing up, into the hydroton; I was surprised it hadn't grown through the fabric. I trimmed it down to about the same size as the lime tree, but only to about an 8 gal fabric pots. I "sifted" a bunch of the soil out of these roots, and used about 50/50 with the new. While doing this, and mixing the two together, I did something REALLY STUPID, and sliced the tip of my R index finger. Very quickly, I put my thumb over it (along with whatever dirt was there!), and the wheels started turning, wondering what on earth could have done this? Then it dawned on me - that knife, which was razor sharp, had slipped into the tub with the dirt! I blurted out something I can't print here, like "You dumb s#*®!" I went inside, rinsed the dirt off as much as possible, then took my thumb off the cut and rinsed it out, then poured some peroxide on it, rinsed, and more peroxide...eventually, the pain went down, and I dried it, put criss-cross Nexcare bandages on it (most waterproof, in my experience), and went out and got into the dirt again! The bay laurel is finished, and after I got it back up on the deck, I made a solution of Bt israelensis (to prevent fungus gnats), using some saved rain water (chlorine might kill the bacteria), and poured over 2 gal of the solution into the pot, before it was just starting to leak. I soaked the surface of other pots, too, but I'll do it again, before bringing them in. Been there a few times pepperhead212 and surprisingly not while carving. It’s usually when I’m doing something else with a knife. In fact, I have a good scar right along the hairline of my scalp. 9th or 10th grade my buddies and I were out camping. Back then, we all carried these big, useless, Bowie Knives. All 3 of us had one. Late that night, bored with nothing to do we decided to knife fight. My two buddies were on the ground slashing at each other, I climbed onto the cab of the truck, knife between teeth and jumped down onto them, in the same instance, my buddy had raised his knife up at an angle and my head hit the sharp tip and cut a small gash. It bled like crazy, but it wasn’t a bad cut. I rubbed some dirt on it to stop the bleeding cause we didn’t want to end out camp out. I made up a story when I got home about crossing through a barb wire fence. Back in my day, country kids always found ways to stay busy. We did a lot of dangerous things that would make the hairs on your head stand on end. We survived though!

hairymooseknuckles Yeah, I have a few marks like that, too - in fact, 3 different stitch marks on my face, and a few more all over me! KOW, I rarely cut myself in the kitchen, with all that knife work I do! I'll have to be especially careful, now that I've jinxed myself. Fortunately, I heal fast.
