Even though it was just DH, me and my brother, I still like to get out the special dishes and make a formal meal. My refrigerator has plenty of left overs and I love that. Hot turkey sandwiches for dinner tonight, Thanksgiving 2022 by Brownrexx, on Flickr

brownrexx , Very Nice! We were all still sickly around here with head colds, so we didn't cook a holiday meal. I’m one of the few people you will meet that doesn't really care for Turkey and Dressing. I mean, I can eat eat it, but I wouldn’t walk across the street to get it. One of the things I always promote is trying new dishes around the holidays. It don’t go well around here on Turkey Day though. They will let me have whatever I want for Christmas, But Thanksgiving always has to be traditional. Unless like this year, we were all sick. I hope they don’t wan’t that mess for Christmas. I don’t mean for it to sound like I hate stuffing, it’s ok. I just wish they would fix enough for one meal, eat it and get it over with. I don’t want to eat that crap for a week afterwards. Ya know? Oh btw, Your dishes and meal looked great! I love love Fried Turkey.

You set a beautiful table, brownrexx !! The four of us went out for a Thanksgiving buffet special at one of the local lake resort fine dining restaurants. It was the best prepared holiday meal we have gone out for, ever! Nice variety along with the usual side dishes and ham and turkey. The dressing was nicely moist and not too salty for a change which is my complaint of most restaurant dressings. I went back for seconds on a brussel sprout & bacon casserole. They had a choice of pecan, pumpkin or chocolate cream pie for dessert. They were smart and served the pieces in an uneven variety of sizes, so those of us who were already stuffed could opt for a thinner slice just to get a taste. I've only eaten there once before for a to order restaurant meal, we'll have go back soon and try something from the daily menu.

september, pecan pie is my second favorite after pumpkin pie. My brother brought a pumpkin pie from Wegmans and it was a good as ay home made pie I have ever had. They put some granular sugar and bake it into the crust. I would never do that but it did seem decadent. hairymooseknuckles, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite meals but I send lots of left overs home with my brother who lives alone and only buy enough turkey for a couple of meals. I am not one to want left overs all week either and I really do not like soup made with the turkey bones. I am ready for something totally different like pizza in a couple of days!

I get through Thanksgiving leftovers by alternating them with completely different foods. For example, yesterday we ate party food instead of Thanksgiving leftovers - except some people had leftover desserts. (For some reason people never seem to get tired of desserts. ) But today I had a plate of Thanksgiving leftovers for lunch - I just ate a bit of everything. Dinner tonight will be something completely different, though I am not sure what yet. Then tomorrow's lunch will probably be something very different, and tomorrow's dinner will be turkey pot pie. The turkey pot pie should use up all or nearly all of the leftover turkey. So most of us will be done with Thanksgiving leftovers by tomorrow night. I say "most of us" because I will likely be having leftover turkey pot pie for lunch during the week. The only Thanksgiving leftovers which I fear may not get fully used up are cranberry sauce and the cheesy potato dish my oldest son made. Both are delicious, but there is just a lot of each of them. For once we didn't keep enough of the leftover stuffing (we sent it home with my in-laws). The reason we didn't have enough is that this is the year that son #3 has discovered stuffing. Before this year, I was the only one at our house who would eat leftover stuffing. So, I kept back just one serving of stuffing as usual...but son #3 ate it all before I got any. Oh, well...next year I need to remember to keep more of the leftover stuffing.
