There just happens to be six gardening sites listed on my favorites column. Some get visited daily or even more, some every few days and one whenever I look down at the bottom of the list. There have been three or four that attracted me at one time or another during the twenty-five years with the internet that have either been let go or have folded. Several more have been tried and subsequently ignored after a trial period. During those early days, being an internet gardening, and specifically tomato gardening newbie, I did ask a lot of crazy questions, or stupid questions, or questions I could easily have researched myself.
For the past many years whenever someone posted a question asking for help or was looking for explanations for certain situations or wanted an opinion on a better way of raising plants or what tasted better or whatever questions arose, I was free with my input. Over the past couple of months or maybe years some of these inane questions or situations have been driving me to shake my head. Was I that frustrating to those with the answers or opinions who would share their experience?
It didn't too long for me to use my experiences and research to figure out there were other ways to get the information I used to ask for on the few sites I visited. Then my own answers to what I now consider silly or repetitive questions were offered up freely and often. What really bothers me these past few months or maybe years is how much wrong or misleading information is being spread by folks who clearly have no clue what they are espousing as absolute truth.
I remember my old friend, the tomato queen we called her, was seemingly on a crusade to squash misinformation. She came across as a crotchety old lady sometimes, but what she said was spot on most of the time. I will never have her knowledge or experience but I can see where her frustrations came from for what I think she considered "lazy gardeners".
Several of the sites visited frequently seem to attract certain interests. One seems to be West Coast popular, one hybrids only, a couple are more uncontrolled in topics, another tightly controlled and a couple are like the Three Bears...just right. Every once in a while I need to express my "old man syndrome" and today is the day. Maybe not enough sleep last night, too much time to think or too much looking back. Whatever the reason I needed to vent on what I now consider those who are too lazy to look up or work out simple answers before flooding sites with useless questions or asking for inane opinions. The decision has been made to ignore those questions and ignore those asking for opinions that seem to be just taking up space in a site. The misinformation will no longer be corrected and plain old wrong answers will not be chided for their erroneous responses. I quit being the watchdog as of today no matter how much it pains me to read bad information.
This is not expected to receive responses since it is my "every once in a while rant". And it is only posted here since this is the JUST RIGHT SITE.
