no I am not sure .. just outside jackson . I am guessing it is normal MS Clay

Blueberries probably won't like it then. I lived from 4 to 9 in Canton and remember those huge chunks of clay. We grew some good watermelons there though.

We grew some good watermelons there though. being ignorant of yazoo clay prior I did research being where I am in pearl so close to jackson and the soil not being the classic red clay I grew up with ( dirt clot wars with brothers were killers) I think i am in yazoo clay

I had to study yazoo clay in soils and foundation design during civil engineering school. They didn't talk about the agricultural side though. Basically it is a highly expansive slay meaning it expands or shrinks according to the water content. I'd definitely avoid slab foundations on it.

I'd definitely avoid slab foundations on it. yea then that's a definite since I got a three inch drop in my kitchen in the past months ... did not know it was called yazoo clay yea I often wondered why no one builds conventional foundations here knowing the foundation issues around . and every new house is slab .
