I'll be trying a few next year and was wondering which ones would do best in a raised bed? Also, what kind of numbers of fruit can you expect on a vine of pumpkin?

If you have a bed that vines can grow off of and skip mowing near the bed any from CT Feild to pie punkins aught to work for you. The steroidal Atlantic Giant needs its own yard... For you, CT Feild or NE-Pie might be a second crop if you want winter storage of punkin's.

If you get two pumpkins per vine you are doing well. By the way, pumpkins can put out a 15' tap root! They like moist soil--letting the soil dry out will stress the plants. Stressed plants put out chemical signals which invite pest insects. Early morning watering is best for pumpkins. Wet leaves overnight can produce bacterial and/or fungal problems which will likely kill the plants.

Lots of very rich soil too. Pumpkins can grow well right in an old manure or compost pile
