Gardening should be fun.

I have wonderful success starting all kinds of squash indoors in dixie cups or little larger paper cups. I use the cup rim for cut worm protection.

I do it with squash, armenian melon cukes, regular cuke all the time. I start them with potting soil in dixie cups. I wast fewer seed that way. Just plan on transplanting them within 2 or 3 weeks of sprouting.

Summer squash plants have a short life span, only 2-3 months. If one picks the squash when they are immature, prior to having developed seeds, the life span of the plant will be extended. Typically, summer squash should be planted in two rounds to ensure having a supply of squash until first frost.
