The difference in the am prices and the pm prices is the arrival of a tanker of gas. The price changes per load of gasoline. A friend works for a gas company. That I understand. But when I was 14 (1974) I started working at a gas station. I continued doing so off and on up to about 82-83. I've seen the prices doing screwy things and there has always been a predictable pattern to the "seasonal" changes. But here in the midwest I have never seen such daily changes, ever. I think the only exception was 9/11 which was just hysterical panic. I was always told our prices where different mostly due to the number of refineries in relation to their close proximity. We used to have a number of smaller oil companies around here. They still pump oil around here. But most of those smaller companies have now been assimilated and a few of those refineries closed (and now superfund-like sites). Obviously compared to a national market our demand isn't the same as more populated coastal areas. But the oil is here and doesn't have to go as far so I suppose the prices still reflect that somewhat. I think what is really screwing us now are commodity traders squeezing out as much profit as possible. Especially since the current admin is facing scandals. There is probably the thinking - well we can gouge now, they are too concerned with other things to bother us at the moment (and they will need our money to get re-elected soon).

$4.15 today. I drove 4 miles south of town to a station where they usually hold back the price increase long enough where we can zip there for a fill up. Well today they raised the price simultaneously with the four stations in town. They must have gotten the word to "play ball".

We are mostly at 3.28 A few places are at 3.26
Kansas price is 3.35 and that will likely go up tomorrow as almost all sales taxes in Kansas are going up tomorrow to pay for the tax cuts for the rich.
