Last year I divided my daylilies and bought some new ones. They are just starting to flower so I took a pic of the many different colors. I am really enjoying this flower bed this year. IMG_20190706_161013 by Brownrexx, on Flickr

Nice flowers! Last year I planted some annual Scabiosa. Some in-ground, some in 5 gallon pots. There were nice colors, and the plants were a bit floppy. When they started to look 'distraught' in fall, I pulled the ones in front and the ones in containers sat there and enjoyed the winter rains. Then they started to re-grow. Turns out they are not annuals where there is no frost. Wish I had known that. So now the ones in pots are in full bloom. White, rose, red, almost black, and a pretty lavender color. The bees seem to like them too. I planted more seed, but I must say, Scabiosa is one of the slowest growing plants I've ever tried. But I am quite fond of them. I'd better be - they do naturally re-seed. Once you have them, you'll always have them. Fortunately the bunnies nor snails eat them. These are the ones I'm growing. They may be slow growing, but the flowers last in a vase a very long time. And are very pretty with a bit of added greenery. www.johnnyseeds.com/flowers/scabiosa-pincushion-flower/pincushion-formula-mix-scabiosa-seed-1999.html?cgid=scabiosa#start=1

Oh!! I hear about flowering dogwoods, but have never seen one. We are too far north, out of their range.

There are a lot of dogwood cultivars, and some have different color flowers like of pink or red or yellow, or colored foliage - but the classic dogwoods are white with green leaves. Down here in the South dogwoods usually bloom on or before Easter. They are nice ornamental trees that don't need much care, and most of them are small to medium sized, so they are good for smaller yards. You can see a bit in the picture how the branches spread out almost horizontally and the flowering tips bend up. That is the classic dogwood branching pattern. It gives the tree a pretty layered or tiered effect. So, september, you don't get dogwoods, but we don't get lilacs. So I guess it evens out...

My Easter lilies are starting to bloom, just a few days after Easter. This is actually early for Easter lilies here, probably due to the warm March temperatures. Usually in-ground Easter lilies bloom in early May. (Obviously when you buy the potted lilies they have been greenhouse-grown and forced to bloom just in time for Easter.)
Mom's amaryllis has put up two flower stalks again this year. It's also early; typically it blooms in early May around the same time as the Easter lilies. The first stalk's blooms are shriveling, and the second stalk's blooms are just opening.
My first daylily is also blooming. I could swear it's not the same color it used to be a few years ago when I got it. I remember it being purple, with almost pastel yellow broad stripes in the middle of each petal. Now the petals are almost a fuchsia pink and the striped in the middles of each petals are a bright shade of yellow - the colors have a lot more "pop." Can daylilies change color over time? Or am I getting senile?
The blooms are bigger, too, but I assume that is because the plant is older/larger and has more energy to put into the blooms.

No, mine looks different. I have both orange and yellow and will post pics when they flower. They are still small.

I have been admiring the orange lilies at a house that I drive by on my way home for several years and last year I decided that I just had to have some so I went to a greenhouse and found some orange lilies. They opened yesterday and I am so happy with them. Just look at how many flowers they are giving me! 20200615_153224 (2) by Brownrexx, on Flickr

Not the usual flower, but here is a pic of my hubby's cactus on our deck. He counted 41 flowers! The sad part is that they only bloom for one day. 20200729_075211 (1) by Brownrexx, on Flickr

brownrexx,
Blooms only last for a day? I hate that.

I'd kill to have some of those varieties! You don't need to kill, just mail order them from the place where I bought mine! She has fabulous varieties that you will never see in any store or even most catalogs and her prices are good too. I got some new ones at the end of last year and got to see them blooming for the first time this year. I got interested in the spidery ones and bought a couple of them. I got so much enjoyment out of seeing them bloom. I bought them from www.woodcrestdaylilies.com/ and she has a beautiful website with photos of her daylily gardens. This place is about 5 miles from my house and I stroll through her gardens and just enjoy looking at all of the beautiful flowers. Of course I always buy something new too.
