Homemade mac n cheese. Oh wow. Tonight was mater sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches and rice mixed with thick cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup. May sound odd, but it was very good, very filling and even the kiddos ate well. I'm stuffed.

Not a mac & cheese fan. Survived on that and Chef Boy-R-Dee ravioli while going to school. Don't like either one now, not even homemade! Tonight!! Fresh picked,(the first one!) lightly fried eggplant topped with a slice of fresh tomatoe and topped with mozzarela cheese, under the broiler to brown. SOOOOOOO GOOD!

Chicken and dressing as a main dish and sauteed marrow squash and patty pan squash. 2 full plates. I'm a little overstuffed.

Nutritious AND delicious Dld! When I first moved to Houston area umm, well, a number of years back, I pretty much lived on Subway the first few months. I was a very happy camper. Funny how perspective changes over time. Lol.
Split pea soup with cornbread. Yum!

I made a stir fry with some of those greens (mostly the stalks, after trimming the leaves off for another use, plus the small leaves), shrimp, and some Szechwan seasonings - some scallions, garlic, ginger, chili paste, soy sauce, and a little black vinegar and sugar. Then I added some leftover rice (something I almost ALWAYS have) for bulk, and I had a one dish meal!

Grilled elk steaks, potatoes and salad (from the store- garden isn't quite producing enough yet) with homemade feta cheese from my friend up the road. Hub's kids are here for the summer- so lots of food!

DW made a big pot of that tomato soup today.
3 bowls for dinner with 3 slices of fresh baked bread. A few hours later and I'm still stuffed.
There's enough for tomorrow, but I think we're going to make another batch tomorrow to put in the freezer. I think that's the only way we're going to get any put away is if we make another batch while one's in the fridge. ;D

Never got around to making the extra batch of soup today. Maybe tomorrow. Saved the rest of the current batch of soup for tomorrow. Tonight was hamburger patties with brown gravy, the first of the butternut squash from the garden - baked with brown sugar and cinnamon, and sliced tomatoes. Brandywine vs. JD's Special C-Tex: Such a dilemma to have! The JD's edged out the Brandywine again. Both are darn good maters. I'll be going into a coma now. Lol.

Chinese/Vietnamese food. I'm having both grilled sliced beef with vermiceli and Hunan beef with egg roll and hot and sour soup. Wife and I were going to go out to dinner, but oldest child has flu or stomache virus, so just picking it up and bringing home. He's on the mend, but we didn't want to infect any babysitters and pass it along.

I love Hunan food Dawg. The first place open after Katrina was a chinese resteraunt. it was usually a buffet but the old guy had a 4 choice menu. His Hunan shrimp were out of this world. Allmost hated to see it go back to regular buffet.

Thanks Dld. He's getting better. Gave him a portion of the hot and sour soup, as mushrooms are an A#1 antiviral and it had just enough spice to help open up the congestion. He was a happy camper. Hunan's good Gcg - love the brown sauce in a lot of those dishes. Szechwuan also when I'm in a mood for a little more spice. The really good stuff at this little family run restaurant is the Vietnamese. I'm not sure what marinade or basting sauces they use on the grilled beef, but it really makes the taste buds sing. I used to do almost exclusively buffets, so that I could make a pig of myself, but alas, those days are mostly over. Lol. I did end up eating both orders tonight, and am only mildly uncomfortable, but oh-so-happy.

I love hot and sour soup from a good place. There is a vietnamese/thai place in Gulfport that I ate ate saturday. Just ask for Thai Hot when they ask how spicey. If you have some people who don't like it spicey, ask for Pad Thai which is noodles with chicken in a peanut orang sauce. They have like 200 things on the menu and I might give the vietnamese side a try next time.

Wow! 200 menu items. I could live there. Lol. A dish that is spicy that we often order is "Singapore Fun". This is the rice noodles in a yellow curry sauce. It is fairly spicy to begin with. If you ask them to spice it a little more, there is no in between. Straight to sweating bullets and just flat feeling the temperature rise. Darn good tho.

"Pumpkin" soup! First of this season made with puree from Fortna, Sugar pumpkin, butternut and cushaw. The green onions came from the garden. Instead of chicken stock, I used tomato stock left over from processing tomatoes for freezing. It was good.

I have been dying for sausage sandwiches with peppers & onions! Dh was diagnosed with gout earlier this year. So I did not want to bring this up, much less feed it to him. Hot sausage with peppers and onions is one of his favorite things. Today he suggested it for dinner. I asked him about his gout. He said it was one of those things you should have for the 4th and he was willing to suffer the consequences. So hot sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions it was!

Turkey breast marinated in coconut milk then seasoned with Jamaican jerk seasoning and grilled in the Green Egg. Also red quinoa cooked with vegetable broth, rotel tomatos with green chiles, and sharp cheddar cheese stirred in at the end. The best cooking I've done in a long time.
