octave1, I looked it up, but don’t ever remember seeing it. Sounds like a good one though! I’ll see if I can find it. Thanks!

Our old house was built in 1874...not that old by east coast and south standards, but the central air does not do the upstairs rooms due to ducts not able to go in the brick walls. They go up a single trace to the attic and then out to the ceiling vents in the three bedrooms. An auxiliary fan will help if it can ever be put in (getting an HVAC guy to do it is like pulling teeth).
So what I did today was take out the window ACs in two bedrooms. It looks as though we are in for cooler Fall weather. Our bedroom has two windows so the last window unit will stay in until later just in case crazy weather returns. I thought about jeans today but my tradition is for shorts until snow flies. Next week with lows in the 40s it will be a challenge to keep the tradition.

I’m sitting at the hospital as my mom has surgery How is your mom doing? On a different note, I am a serious fan of those silly "horror" movies.

paulf, I never realized how uncomfortable jeans were till I started wearing the tactile slacks and shorts. I hate putting on a pair jeans anymore. The Tactile pants are nice enough to go out to eat and the shorts are worn everywhere else. On real cold days, I might put on a pair of sweats. I’m old and comfortable.

My project yesterday was to take the top of my range outside, and clean it. I clean it all the time normally, but eventually, grease on the grates and in the wells had to be removed with oven cleaner. Dawn power scrubber (or whatever it is called, as well as similar products) helps some, but oven cleaner is best, and I take the 3 sections outside, and empty a can of oven cleaner on them, and it is amazing how clean they get, after almost 39 years (I put it in there in Dec. '83!). I doubt any of the "smart" electric ranges these days will live this long. Project for the day - cleaning the stovetop - cleans up pretty well after almost 39 years in the kitchen! by pepperhead212, on Flickr I picked some more peppers this morning - happening every day, now. I'm surprised that they are doing as well as they are, given how cool it is getting! As always, I have far more than I need, with less plants again!

pepperhead212, WOW looks brand new! I am jealous of 6 burners and gas! We are all electric here. Been attempting to get some deep cleaning done! So much was going on this year that I never managed to fully get my Spring cleaning done. Plus been trying to weed out extra stuff. I bought 2 new sheet sets so gave the bro and phew 4 sets of sheets that I didn't want. FTR those 4 sets were used maybe once so were basically new. The others (yes I had more) were tossed. We have one bedroom and one bed so don't need that many sheet sets! Sorting through clothes and STUFF. So much stuff.

I didn't do anything around the house today except sleep. I had cataract surgery on my right eye this morning and it went well but I just keep falling asleep. I had the left eye done two years ago with no problems. I have no pain I am just wishing the dilation would go away and I could see. Probably tomorrow.
Hubby is taking care of me. He made me a bowl of tomato soup for lunch and is out picking up a pizza for dinner. We have not had take out pizza since the pandemic was in full force.

My husband, who has sensible tastes when it comes to clothing, always laughs when we go out together and he is comfortably wearing jeans while I am shivering in shorts. But what can I say, it's a point of honor for me.

Back around 79/80, me and my best friend were going camping. Of course my nephew was a shadow, so he came along too. He wanted a hammock and I picked him up one earlier that week. It was one of those fishnet types that cost a buck or two back then. Well, I forgot to throw his in the truck before we left out, so we made him one out of a sleeping bag. He was only 4 maybe 5, so it worked like a charm.

I have an 8 am eye doctor appointment and it is 55° this morning. I am seeing much better this morning but my pupil is STILL a bit dilated after almost 24 hours. Wow those drops are strong!

Wow, brownrexx, I am surprised that you still have some dilation this morning! I hope that resolves soon, and that your eye appointment goes well. I had a two-week follow up with the dentist to check on the bone graft yesterday. The dentist said everything looks great. My next follow-up is in early December to see if I am ready for the implant socket installation.

Laura_in_FL, I had Lasik surgery 20 years ago and I have been told that Lasik patients stay dilated longer than others. I always ask for a diluted drop during regular dilation check ups but yesterday morning they have me the dilating drops 3 times before surgery so I am not surprised. The nurse this morning also said that people with light colored eyes stay dilated longer. Mine are light brown and I had never heard that before. Anyway my vision is 20/30 this morning and getting better as the dilation wears off. No more scratchiness and not terribly light sensitive.

I had LASIK over 20 years ago myself - I had it done in 1999. I have been wondering whether LASIK causes problems for future cataract surgery. Glad to see that it does not. I am also glad to hear that your vision is getting better as the dilation is wearing off. If you're willing to answer (feel free to tell me if I am being too nosy), did you get single-distance lenses during your cataract surgery, or the newer multifocal or accommodative lenses?

Laura_in_FL, I had Lasik in both eyes in December 1998. Previously my vision was 20/400 so I was a coke bottle glasses girl although I wore contact lenses too. Lasik was one of the best things I have ever done. I loved it but in 2005 I had to have a "touch up" in the right eye because my vision had gotten a bit worse. Easy procedure and I had 20/20 vision until 2 years ago when I noticed a dimming of vision in my left eye and it was caused by a cataract. Lasik only changes the shape of our eyes but the lenses can still become cloudy with age. I turned 70 this year so you probably have quite a few years with good vision yet. I had cataract surgery on the left eye 2 years ago and the right eye this week. Today I seem to have my 20/20 vision back and everything is nice and clear. As you probably know reading glasses are still needed and I really don't mind those. I have a pair made to my exact prescription and I love them. I can read things like menus without glasses but for reading books or other small print I need readers. I got the single distance lenses for both surgeries. I have never worm bifocals and didn't think that sounded easy to adapt to. It was also a several thousand dollar copay per eye and I didn't think that it was worth it since I had already adjusted to using reading glasses and didn't mind it. Probably by the time you need cataract surgery there will be other options.

My husband had Lasik on both of his eyes also. He also got the lens where he uses reader glasses. But he is very happy. I was told that I had very early beginnings of a cataract in one of my eyes? Not sure what that means but I am due for an eye appointment so I guess I should ask better questions.
My sister is in town for a couple of days so I spent the day with her. Will get to see her again before she leaves but she is trying to see all her high school friends also and she is leaving Sat.

I do not wear glasses so this was not an option for me. If your vision is good, there is no need to have cataract surgery even though you have a small cataract. They are not harmful.

meandtk, I am very glad to hear that the doctors are optimistic about your mom! brownrexx, thanks for the detailed answers about your cataract surgery. They were reassuring to read. Our pre-LASIK vision was pretty similar, and LASIK felt like a miracle. I always figured they would work things out with post-LASIK cataract surgery since so many people have gotten and are still getting LASIK. But before your post I had yet to talk to anyone who had both surgeries. And yes, hopefully cataract surgery is a couple decades off for me still.

I was lucky - I went out while it had stopped raining very briefly, and took out the two cans of lawn trash, and harvested some herbs, before it started raining again. That was the only time outside!

I went to a wedding shower for my nephew and his bride to be. While their his sister and her husband brought their two new foster kids to meet everybody. A nine year old boy and a 5 year old girl. The boy was trying hard to get people to like him. He was overheard saying that this was the fifth house he had been staying and that he hopes that they can stay for a while. If everything goes well the court will let them adopt the kids in 6 months. About time the poor kids caught a break. Btw this will be the first granddaughter for my sister and first great granddaughter for my mother. My mom brought out a doll that she had at the same age for the girl to play with.

This morning I went to my PC doctor on a change of appt (they called me yesterday and asked if I would come this morning instead of Monday - they know I'll do things like that for them, since I live nearby, as long as I don't have something else going on, and I liked this early appt. better! I found out I'm still alive, and he liked all of my numbers, including the daily BP I had sheets for.
On the way home I went over to Ollie's - they just sent out their 15% off total purchase coupons, and I got some steals on some items, before the 15% off. Then I went next door to Dollar Tree - something I get there, that some of you probably get here cheaper than anywhere else: Hydrogen Peroxide. Funny thing is, I didn't really need any more, but I noticed that they only had 3 of the 32 oz containers, but a bunch of some much smaller, 8 oz containers. So I bought the last 3 large containers - I might do the same at the one in my town - I know they will be gone, eventually. I thought I'd tell you guys about this, in case any of you use this, and buy it there.

This year I grew tam Jalapeno which is supposed to have only half of the heat of Jalapeno's. Last month I made some Tam Jalapeno poppers and froze them. Hubby really likes them and asked me to make more so I picked my remaining 10 peppers and made them for the freezer today. Last time I figured that they were not that hot, so I made the mistake of not wearing gloves and scraping out the membranes and seeds with my fingers. My fingers burned all night so this time I wore gloves but when I scraped out some of the membranes with a knife, juice spritzed onto my cheek and upper lip. I was so thankful it did not hit me in the eye! I got out my face shield that I bought during the pandemic and wore that. I looked like a Haz Mat worker but at least I didn't burn myself any further. I don't know how you work with those super hot peppers pepperhead212 , I freeze them on plates and then put them into a Zip Loc Freezer bag. Tam Jalapeno Poppers by Brownrexx, on Flickr

Sorry to hear about your problem with the peppers, brownrexx! Nothing you can do when one of those things squirts! Unless you do dress Hazmat every time. I don't usually even bother with gloves when handling habaneros - usually using just one, I'll slice through it on the board, after cutting up everything else I will be cutting. Then I start mincing, with the chef's knife, and hopefully, it never really contacts me! If dehydrating a bunch of large chiles, that I have to cut in half, I slice them in half, and pull the knife out, and place the pepper on the rack, and let the halves fall apart. It seems that even tight fitting gloves seem to get in the way eventually, when cutting! After doing work with peppers, I just wash thoroughly with some of that abrasive, orange Goop, used originally for cleaning from auto and other greasy work, but I keep it mainly for this! And it does work well.

brownrexx , I hate when those squirts to the face happen! I do wear gloves if I have to do a bunch of hot peppers, but often I only need a couple for a small batch of fresh salsa, so I just put a plastic sandwich bag over my holding hand which comes in contact with the peppers. Knife hand doesn't need it. Then turn the bag inside out before tossing it in the garbage in case it brushes against something unintended.

It was sunny and warm and I got motivated to do a little work outside. DH dug me a deep pit in my garden a few weeks ago and I have been dumping things in there for underground composting over the winter. I cleaned up the dropped pears and put them in there as well as rotten tomatoes and anything else I pulled out of the garden. Today I got out the lawn sweeper and drove it al around the yard to collect grass clippings and I added a big pile to the pit along with the pepper plants that I pulled today.
I got really motivated and cleaned out the chicken coop and added the debris to the garden where it will be roto tilled later this month. The chickens got all new straw and I closed a couple of their windows so they are ready for colder weather now.
It is supposed to drop to 34° tonight so I spread a sheet over the sun sugar plant because it is still producing nicely and is full of small green tomatoes.

Been a busy few days. First there was the Rehearsal dinner on Friday and then the wedding yesterday.
To make a bit of sense, (first time for everything) our son that passed away, his widow, met a wonderful man and it was their wedding. She still calls us Mom and Dad and she is and always will be our daughter. Plus the man she married is amazing and we adore him also.
Gonna try to harvest my carrots tomorrow. That is all I have left.
