brownrexx, been there, done that, as they say. I use the Gatorade prep approach. I start the first prep around noon, the second around 6 pm. I'm asleep by 10 pm. The colonoscopy isn't a lot of fun, but at least you'll be rested for it, ha. Here's an example of the prep I follow: Bowel Prep Instructions

rdback my prep only uses 64 oz of Gatoraid and one bottle of Miralax so it's only 1/2 the volume thay you have to drink but I will still poop like a pet monkey as hairymooseknuckles said. So gross.I have to take Dulcolax tablets tomorrow at 4 pm, liquid prep at 6 pm and the second half of the liquid prep at midnight. I won't get much sleep.

Hubs has been through the whole colonoscopy thing several times now. I have a serious terror of "out patient" surgeries. So far every single time I have been in an "out patient" surgery, I have ended up in the hospital for days and sent home flying on oxy >,< I do the cologuard thing. The old poop in a jar and mail it in UPS, strangely always at Christmas time? Merry Christmas here is some poo! BUT the other plus is I do not have to drink that goo and I detest Gatoraid!

I am on clear liquids today and I discovered that black coffee is not as bad as I thought as long as I add sugar. Orange Gatorade comes later. They suggest using a straw to make it go down better and I intend to try that.
Definitely not looking forward to tonight but I will be glad to have this over with tomorrow.

My last colonoscopy was my last. After age 75 there is no reason to continue. My Doc says even if I get colon problems they would take so long to kill me I would most likely die of old age first. No problems found in any of the procedures so no reason to go through the process again. It was no big deal anyway...the stories of how bad it was were overblown at best.

I just have to make sure I don't eat any spicy foods, before that preparation procedure!

spike , although cologuard is widely prescribed, it has created problems for a number of people. If your test turns out negative, you are fine and all ends there. If the test turns out positive, instead, you immediately go to a doctor. The doctor sees the cologuard results and immediately prescribes a colonoscopy, because he/she cannot make an accurate diagnosis based on cologuard. So you go for the colonoscopy and find out that it's a diagnostic colonoscopy, at this point, and that your insurance only covers a small percentage of the cost. Luckily the results of the colonoscopy are good, and there is no sign of cancer. It's all well except that now you have several hundreds of dollars to pay for the colonoscopy. I don't know what kind of health coverage you have, but most people who went the cologuard route regret not getting a screening colonoscopy instead.

I got orange Gatorade this time and I must admit that the prep is not as bad tasting as I remembered from 5 years ago.
I am not sure I would trust doing cologuard. I have heard that it is only 80% accurate so I would just as soon bite the bullet and get this over with. Yes it is borderline miserable but by this time tomorrow it will be all over with and I will be enjoying a nice meal hopefully knowing that I don't have a cancer with no symptoms.
Of course Cologuard might be an excellent option for people like my brother. He lives alone in another state and has no local relatives to take him to a colonoscopy appointment and I don't think he feels comfortable asking a friend. They will not allow you to use Uber so he doesn't do the colonoscopy because he doesn't have a ride. I should suggest cologuard to him

I went for a slow walk in the woods. Pretty uneventful, but it was peaceful & quiet. New Years day is supposed to get up to 75 degrees. I have my haversack loaded up with my Fancee Feest alcohol stove, titanium mug and lots of hot chocolate. I’ll be toting my new blade on my belt and carrying a tenkara rod. I ain’t inviting nary a soul as this is a ME day. Might fish, might sit and whittle, I dunno.

hairymooseknuckles , sounds nice! I have not been out for a walk for a long time, just shovel snow and then back in the house. I need to traipse down the hill and bring the long push broom to pull the snow off the greenhouse roof. We have not had enough sun for it to melt off by itself, cloudy almost every day. Plus this time of year, the trees to the south block the low sun angle so it's only gets 3-4 hours of direct sun each day, so not much solar heat inside yet. I also need to clean up the seed mess in the basement. The cats tipped over and scattered some of the uncovered shoe boxes of seeds used last year, then proceeded to play with the beans and chew holes in some of the packets. I will probably have to throw away half of it, which is actually ok -- some of the seeds were getting a little old anyway. I should have cleaned it up immediately, but more pressing things came up, and the area is in an "out of sight, out of mind" spot that I don't see every day. So they had plenty of time to keep playing floor hockey with my seeds.

I would rather go on a trek in the woods, but I guess I will retire to the basement and rearrange my tomato seeds.

We are heading to our cabin on 6 acres of woods for the weekend. I also like sitting in the woods but usually in a chair on my deck and reading a book. However we don't do a lot outside in the woods in the winter other than look at animal tracks if there is snow.
Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy is over and was not as bad as I remembered although I never want to see orange Gatorade again. At first it didn't taste too bad but I really had to struggle to drink the rest at midnight so that I could go to a 6:30 am appointment.
A couple of small polyps were found, removed and biopsied so hopefully after those results come back I can forget about the whole thing for another 5 years.
When we got home I asked DH to make me some tomato soup since I was cold. He said "do you feel sick?" since I usually eat tomato soup when I don't feel well. I said No, actually I am just being lazy and taking advantage of you taking care of me. It's fun to do that once in a while.

brownrexx, I’m glad its over. I always dread having it done. Hopefully everything is benign and you’ll be through with that. We had that cold snap and now it’s actually pretty warm. It’s currently 73 degrees. I have been enjoying it. I sat on the porch this morning and just relaxed.

I fixed the screen door that almost blew off my back porch, late Friday, when I was getting that 50-60 mph wind. I'm surprised that it wasn't blown off, but the frame was bent, and I couldn't close it, so I pushed it as shut as I could get it, and put 2 heavy tubs of salt against it, then waited until that cold went away, to fix it! It was up to at least 50° today, and no wind at all, which is what I was waiting for. It wasn't easy for me to handle that door, esp. with a bad shoulder, but after a few tries, I took off the two windows and large screen (duh...should have done this first!), and it was much lighter, plus I could reach through it! I had to get something from the workshop to bend that small section, which worked well, but the door still didn't fit into the section. Finally, I removed the thin (about 3/16") spacer wood, that I had to make, when I first installed it, and it barely fits! I have no idea what shrunk the area. After getting screen and windows back in, and the retractor, the last thing I had to re-connect was the spring chain, or whatever the name is for it - probably the thing that kept the door from being blown off, and the retractor from being bent. It just has a little connector, using 2 screws into the upper door jamb, and I knew exactly where I put them, since it was right where I could get it when re-connecting it. Of course, it wasn't there, or on the floor, or anywhere around that I could see! It was getting dark, so I gave up...maybe it's outside, and tomorrow I'll look in the light! I gathered all the tools, and screws, and took them downstairs to put away. And guess where I found that connector? On the bottom of a magnetic dish I had all those screws in! At least I found it, and I took it, the screws, and the drill/screwdriver up, and attached it immediately; otherwise, I might loose it again!

We got down to 21, which is uncommon for our area, but we fared well.
I’m resting up, looking at seed catalogs, and looking forward to spring.

brownrexx, hopefully the biopsies come back clean. I know you're glad that's over with. mgulfcoastguy, I hope you're all right. We're expecting that same rain later this afternoon. Since we are expecting rain this afternoon, this morning DH and I went out to the new property and planted the pecan trees and pineapple guava bushes to let the rain water them in for us. Now it is time to clean house (still haven't quite sorted out all of the Christmas mayhem yet!) and prep a lasagna since I am hosting son #2's D&D group tonight.

It will probably be the 11th before I get any result on the sonogram. Due to a genetic issue my liver doesn't process fats correctly. After 27 years of medicine I have what is called a fatty liver and occasional pain in that area. If I eat something that has too much fact it tends to run right through me.

Small spring fed lake. Been fishing here for a coons age. Earliest memory here was a camp trip back in the 70’s. It was once the heart of the city, but the town is long gone. TPW stocks it with trout every winter.

hairymooseknuckles , SO jealous! I too have a new backpack and can't wait to get out on the trails! What kind did you get? I had one picked out at REI, but decided I didn’t need it. Went with this from Wallyworld. This thing attacked me and tried to choke me! It’s adjustments aren’t worth a pinch of …. Well, lets just say I don’t like it. It was ok walking around with it empty, but when you load up, there’s no way to control the side to side movement. By the time I was finished with my hike, I was ready to drop kick it right square in the lake. I need some decent hiking britches. I got several of those stretchy Wrangler do hickies. There not jeans, they are a stretchy nylon type of outdoor pants. They are like low riders or something. There is no room in the inseam and you literally cannot pulled them up past the cr….well…thats too much info…but anyways, they have no room. I’ve been wearing sweats and shorts so long that I’m not comfortable in regular clothes. I’ve got to go shopping. Oh and socks! I need decent socks. I’ve worn flip flops so long my feet rebelled today wearing sneakers.
