Don’t get me wrong, I had a wonderful time out there today in spite of equipment issues. I’m not a hiker, I’m a woodsman. To clarify, I typically don’t meander around with a tortoise shell on my back. Hunting knife on belt and lets go. Today I took way more than I needed, but was hoping to piddle around with esbit and alcohol stoves. It was just to windy, so I just wandered around mostly. I really needed some quiet time.

I was outside for about 2½ hrs today, to clean up a bunch of stuff, plus covered the last of my SIPs - things I just turned on their sides, to drain, before it got frozen in early December, and kept waiting for it to cool off, which it did occasionally, but then it would rain! It was muddy out there, but I managed to get them all done. It was just over 60°, and by the time I came inside, I was hot, and took my flannel shirt off, and turned the ceiling fan on in my LR, where it felt good to sit down!
Unfortunately, the covered bed with my greens got a big hole in it, and a few small ones, probably from that severe wind last week, blowing branches off that sassafras tree from next door. Many of those trees were in the ground like arrows! Some of those greens had died, but already had new growth! If it hadn't been windy, I would have re-covered it, with some new cover.

Well I guess at my age I could toss in a depends But it has so many amazing compartments etc that I love it. Plenty of room for water bottles, bug spray, sun block, snacks etc!

hairymooseknuckles , sometimes you get what you pay for! Ask me how I know. I hope that your test shows good results mgulfcoastguy , I don't have fatty liver but after years of not eating a lot of fat or beef I feel sick to my stomach when I eat too much fat. I LOVE fried seafood but it always gives me a sick stomach afterwards. When we eat pizza we usually order light cheese. I had the colonoscopy and upper endoscopy last week and results were good. I had one non cancerous polyp in the colon and 2 non cancerous polyps in my stomach. I have a prescription to heal the inflammation in my esophagus. So glad to be done with that unpleasant procedure. They treated me so nice at this facility. I had to go to a new group because a group of 5 doctors bought all of the gastro facilities in my county and merged them. They decided not to accept United Health Care and suggested that maybe I would want to change insurance plans. Really? I have fabulous insurance so I don't think so. I scheduled with the other huge medical group in my area and although I hated to go someplace new, they treated me so nice. When I entered the prep area at 6:30 am I smelled coffee and made a joke about how it wasn't fair because I was starving after no food since midnight and a liquid diet the whole previous day. I assumed that it was coffee for the staff but as soon as I woke up after my procedure the nurse asked how I liked my coffee and brought me a cup. They actually made the coffee for patients and it tasted so good since I was hungry and also shivering. I have never had coffee after a procedure before. They usually just offer soda or juice in those little plastic cups with the foil on top. After I was settled with my coffee and cookies, she brought me a pack of wet wipes that was heated and suggested that I place the pack on my neck until I was ready to "clean up" and get dressed. That warmth felt SO good. These are just small details but it sure made me more comfortable. The best part was the negative pathology results of course and I got them in only 1 day.

brownrexx, So happy to hear the good news! Yes, I’m known for stepping over a dollar trying to save a quarter. I picked it up because it was light weight, but since it literally has no supporting structure, it just didn't work for me. I have a polish bread-bag that I normally use, but I wanted to carry a bit more.

SO MUCH TRUTH! Was out on the trail on day and something just felt "wrong". I looked back and seen things that should have been in my pack on the ground >,< Stupid bag ripped open at the bottom. So I had to back track and pick up my stuff. That was annoying. After that my sister sent me a backpack and then Hubs bought me a leather one.
I have many backpacks depending on what I am doing. Hiking in the woods? Traveling? Zoo time? Now I will say that the one I have for the zoo type of outings kicks butt. The bottom has a cold area. Great place for drinks and an Ice pack and the top has plenty of room for snacks and all the junk the swarm of grand kids dump on me lol
brownrexx, I am happy to hear that you were treated so nicely! <3

I ordered a few pair of darn tuff socks. Kind of pricy, but they get rave reviews from the hiker world. They are a blend of merino wool and synthetics. They come with a lifetime warranty.

Those socks are intriguing. Not so much for me, but for son #2 who works on his feet and wrecks (wears a hole through) normal socks in a few months. So I ordered a couple of pairs for him to try.
I have no illusions that they will actually last him a lifetime, but if they last a couple of years and they are comfortable, they'll be worth it.

Helped put away Christmas decorations and began the reorganization of the seed collection. I am discovering no matter haw many seeds got given away a couple weeks ago, that many more should have been on the list. Waaay too many I will never grow. The new list will begin this week for dispersal in the fall...however, any requests from the friends here will not be ignored. If I have it, you have it.

I went shopping at 4 places today, which I almost never do! I usually go places when they open, like Aldi's, which I did today, then today I had to pick up a prescription at Acme, where I also got a dozen eggs for $2.84, the cheapest I have seen them in months! Plus another item less than half price, with one of those digital coupons. Later, I went to Job Lots for 2 of their coupon items, plus a few others, and they have their Burpee rack up, 40% off, as always. On the way home, when I saw there was no traffic, I went into town and got a few things at the Mexican grocery store.
On the way home, something unusual (fortunately) happened. A bunch of police cars passed, with lights and sirens on, going down the street I'm going on, and a fire truck and ambulance comes from the other direction, so I tried another street, to avoid the mess. Later, I heard what it was - someone down a side street got shot and killed! And here I thought there was a fire somewhere.

Ordered a Best Buy mail order replacement for my wireless Brother HL2270DW laser printer that I have had since 2011 !!! Power finally just died. The laser cartridges lasted about 3 years, no problem accepting off-brand cheap knockoffs, no problems ever! I just loved this simple little printer. Unlike inkjets, the laser printing does not run if you spill water on it. I rarely need color for anything, but do have a Brother color inkjet as well. Hope the new black and white model will last as long as the old one.

I have a few pairs of them, I pretty much only wear wool socks. They do have a lifetime warrantee provided that the package isn't marked "irregular" ie factory seconds. I goofed up and bought a few of those at Marshalls by accident. Good socks cost now days. But alway read the label and see just how much wool is in them.

I haven't done much today. But yesterday morning I had the implant surgery (titanium implanted in the jaw).
I'm glad I asked for nitrous. I am not good with dental procedures. Although I was numbed so nothing hurt, there were a few times that I remember thinking, "If I wasn't high on nitrous, this would be freaking me out."
Recovery is going well. Some pain, controlled by OTC meds. Some swelling (she prescribed me a short steroid course to keep that down). Overall the discomfort since the procedure has not been as bad as when I had the molar extracted, which is good. I'm on a soup and mush diet again for a bit while the gums heal.
My dentist was really happy with how the procedure went, and said my bone ridge (from the bone graft) was large and strong, so she was able to put in the largest diameter implant. She said that meant that the crown (fake tooth) should be very secure. Now I just need to heal for ~4 months and I can get my new tooth.
Son #2 has taken to jokingly referring to the implant as my "robot tooth." He said, "Mom, you're slowly turning into a machine!"

Laura_in_FL, I have an artificial knee as well as a tooth implant so my brother calls me a cyborg. I was just noticing the other day that I can not even tell which tooth is the fake one. Mine was not a molar, it was one of the smaller teeth but it looks and feels the same as any of my other teeth. It seems like such a long (and expensive) process but I predict that you will love your new tooth when you finally get it.

Older son visited over New Years...that was our Christmas...and two months into a hip replacement he was walking without a walker or a cane and while there was a slight limp, it was barely noticeable. Just think, a couple of years ago he was a world class Marathoner in his age group and now has a bionic hip. He says the other side gets it in a few years. Inherited the hips genetically from my mother. Good thing it skipped a generation, but I would have gone through the pain for him if I could. My running days are just a distant memory. Just a few days ago, some old guy came up to me and asked if I were that guy who was the track guy at our college. I asked if that was UNI and he said he thought that was me. Blast from the distant past. Can't hardly walk a few blocks now.

Yeah, I am sure I will get more robot/cyborg parts in the future - more teeth (at least one for sure), knees, eye lenses (pretty much everyone needs cataract surgery if they live long enough), probably hearing aids and goodness knows what else.
I am just glad that things like this can be done and done well.
Speaking of things going well, recovery has been really smooth and easy so far. I haven't even needed Tylenol this afternoon. I assume that is due to the anti-inflammatory nature of the steroid. I am just trying to be mindful of what I eat, remember to chew only on the other side, and remember to take my meds on schedule. So I am really happy with the way everything is going.
This morning we got the Christmas decorations down and put away, all except for the table linens for the breakfast nook. I still need to wash those before putting them away. So one bin of Christmas stuff is still out, waiting for me to get that done, so it can be returned to the shed.

Painted my door a bright red called "No Drama". It will need at lest one more coat if not two. Then I need to buy some white for the framework. I can use the left over white for the garage door on the detached garage.

He said, "Mom, you're slowly turning into a machine!" Tell Son #2 "Maybe I am but it isn't an ATM". I am not sure whether to laugh or cry about that ATM comment at the moment. I just transferred money to him so he could pay his college tuition for the semester, since his 529 account is all gone. TL;DR: His ADD and the move to more online classes since COVID have made college challenging. He started out college really well, even making straight As at first. But he has had progressively more difficulty, his two year degree program has stretched into four, and I am way, way past ready for him to be done. The good news is that this past week he had a heart-to-heart talk with one of his professors, who heads the program he is in and also serves as his academic advisor. He came into the meeting feeling really beaten down, but she really thinks he can graduate and wants to help him. They looked at his records and realized that the classes he has had the most trouble in were online courses. So she helped him get into in-person versions of the last three classes he needs. And she has set up a time to meet with him every week this semester to make sure he is on track, understanding the material, etc. That is amazing to me; you could never get that kind of help and support at one of the big universities. I told him that most people would not go out of their way like this, and he needs to keep letting her know how much he appreciates this. So, I have all of my fingers and toes crossed that he will be proud to have persevered and he will finally get his diploma in May. ...Just in time for son #3 to start college in August.

Good thing we didn't have on-line courses back in the dark ages. I would have slept through all of them. I also started hot and leveled off in year two through 4. Well, bottomed out may be a better description since my triple major was a strain...track, parties and girl(s). Finally got my head out and got serious. No PHD student by any means but finally muddled through. He will be fine with all the help and encouragement. And you will know what best to do for #2.
In two years we will begin watching grandchildren begin the experience. First one , then a year later two more, then two years later the last three. All six in at the same time for at least a year. We have set up some pretty hefty savings accounts to give each on a boost financially since that was my biggest hurdle (pun intended since I relied on a track scholarship for my money).
Good luck to them all Laura.
