Television and the newspaper were saying the price of gasoline was down, so the price went up from $1.97 to $2.19; 11%. I drove 4 miles south of town to save a dime/gallon.

It's definitely been creeping up around here for the last couple of weeks. And I saw something really crazy yesterday - diesel at one place was $1.95, and one block away it was $2.63! That place has always been a ripoff, as it is the last place right off the interstate before entering Philly. But now this other one - a Superwawa - is there, with a sign visible from way down the highway, so why would ANYONE go to the other place?

Yeah. The other week there was a something-something pipeline in Wisconsin and an "unscheduled" <wink wink> shutdown of a refinery in Michigan that is still sticking it to us. Sounds like a miracle...

I just filled up @ $1.93 Thurs, and I was surprised that the price hadn't been jacked up because of the holiday, plus the possibility of a $.23/gal gas tax in NJ taking effect as early as Friday! Fortunately, the senate shot it down - I guess they knew they wouldn't get many votes in the next election if they passed it!

A $0.23/gal tax? That would have been a pretty bitter pill for folks to swallow all at once. They probably could have gotten away with it if they'd sneaked it in 5 cents a year or something.
Wait, I bet you don't want me giving them any ideas, do you?

Gas rises to two bucks and a bit, and then dribbles back down to right around two-bucks-per. I don't think oil prices will recover and gas going back up till the Sauds and Iran get over screaming at each other. One can hope for discord...
