I was getting sick of this snow, so I grilled something today! After clearing off my deck, and firing up my gas grill, I made some Beef Sabal, from Asian Flavors. It has a hint of orange, from the orange zest, which makes it unique and delicious. And I made a vegetable fried rice, with the remaining brown jasmine rice I had from that curry, and some of those greens that are STILL growing out there!

Tonight is Hanoi Chicken Soup with rice noodles and Gai Lan Asian Broccoli with kimchi. This kimchi has daikon in addition to the napa cabbage. I think I've just about dialed in the amount of salt and chili powder now for a product that totally rocks.
I'm going to try making Dough Flake Soup this weekend from my Korean cookbook as well.

Last night was turkey chili. I was surprised at how really good it was, not being regular chili. May have to double the recipe next time.
Tonight is winter vegetable chowder.

Night before last was chicken & sausage jambalaya. For being a short-cut, not all day cooking version, it was extremely good. We'll have to double the batch next time.
Last night was $5, $5 footlooooong.

Amy's gluten free, non-dairy Spinach Pizza--made with organic rice flour, tomatoes & spinach. It was pretty good for store-bought.

Tonight was DW's concoction of black beans and rice with kielbasa, chopped tomatoes, heavy on garlic and with heavy cajun spice. It was very good!

Ciao all-
Ok this wasn't dinner, but Duane rarely has a day off without a huge Honey Do List, so I made a big brunch: baked potato wedges with olive oil, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and garden rosemary, baked grapefruit halves with minced crystalized ginger, rhubarb buckle, and home-made breakfast sausage with garden sage, garlic, ginger, and white pepper, plus fresh coffee with garden cinnamon basil syrup.
What a great start to the day!

That sounds awesome Sorellina!
What is rhubarb "buckle"?
Pork tenderloin last night. Fake crab with lemon-butter sauce tonight.

A buckle is a bit like a coffee cake in consistency and features some kind of fruit. The fruit is folded into the cake ingredients at the end and is quite moist. Since it's not a particularly sweet cake and has plenty of fresh fruit, it's a good choice for a brunch or with coffee in the afternoon. I'm not a pie baker. I have a lot of trouble getting crust to "work" for me, so buckles, pandowdies, cobblers, slumps, all of those sort of rustic fruit desserts are what I make.

I love coffe cake type items. Thank you for the explanation. I can't get pie crusts to do well for me either. I just use the preformed crusts. When able with the recipe, I use a graham cracker crust as I like it a lot better than true pie crust. We do more icebox type pies than baked pies.

Last night was Brats, rice and salad (lettuce and green onions from the garden) yum!
Tonight is burgers on the barbee. Yum again!
Lalbers, have you made stroganoff with the elk? I bet that would be darn good. Would definitely give it a different flavor profile.

Hmmm- maybe elk burger mixed with regular burger or sausage (elk burger is too dry by itself- no fat) for grilled burgers. Yes, Tx, I have made stroganoff with elk--- and pretty much everything else I can think of! Hubs doesn't like it that much tho. (stroganoff) Any other elk or wild game recipes would be very welcome

Its very delicious and so easy to make.Perfect those rare nights when you cannot decide between Chinese or Cajun food. Why settle for one or the other when you can have a little of each. 1 package zatarain's jambalaya mix 2 1/2 cups water 1 lb crab, cut into bite sized pieces 1/2 cup celery, diced 1/4 cup bamboo shoots 1/4 cup water chestnuts, sliced 1/2 cup bean sprouts 1/2 cup snow peas 1/4 cup white onions, diced 1/3 cup carrots, shredded 1 cup cabbage, shredded 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 3 tablespoons soy sauce 3 tablespoons oil 4-6 tomatoes, depending on size and preference 1/4 cup pecans or peanuts, for a crunchier version (I prefer cashews) (optional) other meat (beef, chicken, duck, game, pork or other types of seafood can be substituted in the recipe) (optional) Directions 1. Cook Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix according to package instructions, omitting the meat. 2. Reserve. 3. Heat oil in a wok. dd crab and cook until done. dd all the vegetables and lightly stir fry leaving vegetables crisp. dd the tomatoes. o not overcook. dd soy sauce, pepper, and pecans and mix well. dd cooked Jambalaya, stir to mix well and cook until rice is hot. Can be served as an entree or side dish.
