It was a pretty nice gardening forum called Idig My Garden and it was created and owned by Gere Gettle of Baker Creek Seeds. Like all forums it had it's ups and downs but a couple of years ago it was put up for sale and it was purchased by the owner of Tomatoville.
The forum has now been shut down.

Idig was OK for a while until a group of nasties began dominating the discussions. Since there was no control to speak of Idig went downhill quickly and droves abandoned the site for more friendly forums (fora?). Me among the droves. I was a member of several gardening forums, first Gardenweb, Idig, then an original member of Tomatoville, the National Gardening Association, and The Helpful Gardener. In the middle of all that in December of 2010, NJT caught my eye. Other posters have come and gone in those eight years, some whose names I recognize, some who are new to me. With the influx of new folks to their site NJT is becoming a busier place. Thank you Dude and thank you posters. Keep up the good work and keep on posting.

paulf I too left Idig, but did so for the reason you mentioned and because of the political discussions. I was a member of several forums too. I stayed mostly in the bean and pea section at Garden-web. We have another member here that I recognize from that bean forum. I've made lots of friends over the years.

brownrexx, thanks for the explanation. In this day and age, I don't think its possible to have a forum without moderation. Sadly, not even a gardening forum. GardenWeb was the first forum-type setting I found, and really enjoyed it for a number of years. I participated in several rooms. It's not the greatest format, but their 'search' was good, and often old threads had great info, Then Houz(z) took over and unfortunately did a lot of damage. They seem to have made things better again, but they lost a lot of good posters. Ive participated at a few other forums since then, but they were either too large, not very active, or just not the right fit. Some I still visit.

Made a lot of great friends on iDig. I've met some of them in person . I'm still in contact with many of them on a regular basis both on forums, facebook and by mail.
But like others have said, it suffered with age. It had a couple of DNS attacks even while Jere still owned it. The one after it was sold was the end. Too bad.

Hi hairymooseknuckles, I still post occasionally on Houzz's Legume forum but it's not the forum it used to be, sad as it's my main interest in vegetable growing. From the days when I was trying to find out the history of my Emelia's Italian Pole bean (I keep on spelling it wrong, keep inserting an "i" where it should be an "e" uurghhhh}. My bean seed collection has grown and grown and grown, totally addicted now. I really like this forum especially when beans are mentioned then my ears really perk up but I also spend a lot of time on another forum. Good to see you here. Annette

aftermidnight Hi, I remember you! Hey do you remember a fellow named Harry? His username was Flintknapper. He and I occasionally email each other. He doesn't garden much anymore as he is 92 years young now. Last year, he sent me 2 varieties of his beans. One is a Black Jungle Butter bean and the other one was is a real long bean that goes well in my climate. Another fellow named George that went by the username Mexmac or something like that, he was living in Oklahoma, but had lived all over the world collecting beans. I haven't talked to George in a couple of years though. We sure used to have some good discussions on Beans and cowpeas.

Hi everybody, glad to be here! We moved and unfortunately will only be gardening in containers for this coming year. I look forward to reading and posting more! Welcome motherhen! Nothing wrong with growing in containers! Technically much of my garden is container gardening, since I do raised beds, which are really just large containers. I'm sure if you have questions about container growing, there are people ready to answer.

Welcome! There's nothing wrong with container gardening. Most of my garden is in sub-irrigated planters (SIPs), specifically Earthboxes. I have a few conventional containers and a few raised beds also. I don't even have an in-ground vegetable garden, and haven't for a number of years now. And, we love to hear all kinds of gardens here!

Hi, all! I live in Bowling Green, OH and am a long time gardener, having container gardens from my young 20's on a balcony in southern California, to friends' houses in Grand Rapids, MI in my 30s and eventually to my own home gardens in Grand rapids, MI and Bowling Green. I mostly grow tomatoes, peppers, herbs, raspberries, summer squash and lettuces, as well as nurturing three young cherry trees in a small backyard garden. We are currently at 3 degrees so there is only dreaming going on right now. I also have an office garden of indoor plants. I just read a book called, _Paw Paws: Finding America's Forgotten Fruit_ which is awesome and has now gotten me interested in paw Paws.

Hi, Deb. Welcome! Where are you located? I'm in NW Ohio, where if you don't like the weather, it may be 20 degrees colder or hotter the next day!

Hello, I came over looking for a gardener I've admired for years. I was told he visited this forum frequently. "Martin"? This forum does look interesting so I will hang around and see what you all are up to. I've been gardening only since 1995 out of necessity .. to keep mother out of a nursing home. I love gardening! A few years back I discovered getting down on my knees to plant and harvest just wasn't as much fun as it use to be...due to age. So I created a 6' x 30' raised bed. This raised bed is what I'm dealing with now; so I will explain and maybe get some suggestions as to what to do with it....as soon as I find out where to post about it in these forums.
