motdaugrnds, yes, you and Wade found me! This is the only place that my eyes allow me to post. If you have trouble with one background or theme, try another option. I'm stuck with the status quo until at least 15 Oct when I will be evaluated by a low-vision clinic. Until then, just as it's been for over a year. That's one eye and a magnifying glass. Thanks everyone for the kind welcome.
Nice to hear you're still around Martin. You're such a value when it comes to gardening. You were having such problems with your neck and now your eyes. ((hugs)) Hope all can be made better for you.

I'm not new, but I still need an introduction, I suppose!
I'm a home gardener in SW Idaho. I like to grow watermelon, tomatoes, muskmelons, peppers, wonderberries, West India burr gherkins, sunflowers, Jerusalem artichokes, summer savory, basil, safflower, seed-grown strawberries, bunching onions, squash, ground cherries, and other stuff.
I tend to start my plants outdoors in an unheated tent-like greenhouse, before transplanting them.
I like gardening forums, and other such sites.

Hi, (re)introducing myself. I am a transplanted California girl now living (since the 80's) first in Michigan and now in NW Ohio, Zone 5b. I live in a college town and raise irises, daylilies, roses and come other stuff in my front gardens, and veggies in the back gardens, along with hostas and an herb garden. Along the back fence I have two fenced gardens where I usually raise tomatoes, peppers, raspberries, summer squash, rhubarb, asparagus, yellow wax beans and I just planted grapes last fall.
My tomato loves are for the dark tomatoes, Black Crim, Cherokee Purple. I am looking to acquire come more dark tomatoes from Seed Savers Exchange community soon.
I have gardened since my early 20's at various friends' homes and finally at my own home. I am an active vermiculture maker and user, as well as composter. A local restaurant gives me all their coffee grounds.
I am musician, a voracious reader, and a dog guardian for my rescue girl.

Welome indigogirl17. We have been members of other forums along the way, I think. Blacks and hearts are my favorites, so if there are any varieties you would like to try, I may have them in inventory to share. Looking forward to your posts.

Good morning everyone. My name is Kim, and I'm so excited to find this group. I live in Pennsylvania (6b) and I'm a mom of two great kids. I have recently become more interested in growing heirloom tomatoes and heirloom/open-pollinated veggies. I have limited space, but make the absolute best of it.
My favorite topic is TOMATOES. 🍅. I am growing "new to me" varieties this year.... Cherokee Purple Green Zebra Pink Brandywine Rose (although it's PL so I believe the seed I got is incorrect) Bella Rosa.
Juliet is a return this year due to huge production so I can freeze them.
I have already been searching the boards and have a wishlist for seeds to buy next year if I'm back at work by then (Stay at Home order). 😬. Not being able to go back to work has made my desire to be more productive and sustainable with my garden even more essential. Plants are pricey at the greenhouses and stores, so starting my own plants from seed is important (and fun).
2021 WISHLIST Cherokee Green. I tried one once and it was the best tomato I had ever tasted! I'm growing Cherokee Purple. I've heard some say the Cherokees taste the same. Honestly, I'm hoping so. 🤞 KBX or Kellogg's Breakfast. I hear slightly better reviews of KBX with its productivity, but it seems like it's tough to find a seed company that sells them. Pink Oxheart. I've never grown an Oxheart, but love the unique shape. Hoping to find one that's tasty and productive.
Thanks for letting me join you. Kim

Hi kiminpa, I also garden in PA and have a large garden with a variety of vegetables. I grow Pink Brandywine every year and it's a good one but produces late so don't be surprised if your others give you ripe tomatoes first.

Welcome to the forum, Kim!
Good luck with your tomatoes! Years ago, Green Zebra was a favorite of mine, and was often number one in the taste test I do every season. Some don't like it, because of the acidity, but this is what made so good, IMO, and it is very juicy, and it seems that the more juice in tomatoes, the more flavor (and one of the reasons that firm, store tomatoes, are pretty bland). GZ is ripe when the the light green stripes turn gold, and the darker the gold, the more intense the flavor. The only reason I stopped growing GZ, was due to its being prone to disease, when I had extreme wet seasons, like last season. It was fairly heat resistant, being one of the last to drop blossoms, in heat waves.

kiminpa Hey there Hi there and Hello!! I am here in NE Ohio, as the crow flies, within spitting distance of Sharon, PA. My Old Uncles always grew Red Oxheart tomatoes. They were great for juice, sauce etc so I am sure the pink should be just as tasty? Sit back, put your feet up and enjoy being here. There is a lot of really knowledgeable people here (NOT ME) that can answer almost any question.

Welcome, kiminpa! Nice to meet you. As a fellow limited space gardener, I know how hard it is to pick tomatoes to grow when you only have space for a few of them. But there are some really knowledgeable people here (I'm not claiming to be one!), and we all are full of enthusiasm for talking about gardening. So I bet you'll fit right in.

Was recommended to this forum so thought I'd introduce myself. Gardening in the Pacific Northwest, south of Seattle about 10 miles from the sea (Puget Sound). Zone 8b and sunset zone 5.
Fairly mild but it gets to -8C on occasion in winter and rarely into the 90'sF in summer
This used to be a lettuce farm a long time ago so hopefully the salads should do well.
Blackcurrants, shallots and garlic
Tomatoes and some peppers that wished they'd been kept inside a bit longer
salad bed
Salads, apple tree, pole beans etc
Runner beans, St George just coming into flower
Good to be a little ways away from one of the worlds most dangerous volcanoes (Mt Rainier)

What part of the country are you gardening in? South Dakota. Next year the garden will extend down the small hill to some more land. I think that's where I will plant the vine growers.....I liked the idea of a trellis for cucs..... the upper portion of what you see will be where the tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and onions will go.
