If you are in need of some rainfall we are the rainmakers. For several years we have followed grandkids baseball games whenever we are able. Very few we get to see because of the rainouts that seem to follow us around. Not only baseball but football games get cancelled that we plan to watch. Even visiting our son's family for the 4th the forecast is for rain. Three more grandson's high school baseball on the 5th and 6th...possible rain making it an assurity. Oldsters will remember this character that seems to be our mascot.

Not enough rain last year and too much this year, huh, paulf? The heat index reached 110F for the first (but not the last!) time this summer. The actual high was 93, which tells you how humid it was. Since then we've had increasing cloudiness and some off and on sprinkles which has cooled things off a few degrees. No measurable rain today, but we did, however, get another 0.7" of rain over the weekend. With the rains we have gotten over the last week, the weeds and roadsides are lush and green again.

Joe Bftsplk! (Could be I spelled that wrong!) from Lil Abner. Rain went mostly north of us today, though we might yet get a bit of trailing tail end if the skinny remnant drags easterly. Very windy, whitecaps on the lake. I went grocery shopping in the morning and took the rest of the day off. Could not convince myself to do any gardening work.

It's already 93° , and 103° heat index at 2 pm, so I won't be staying out there long today! Another half hour is when it will be mostly in the shade, and I'll go out and check everything, pick what I have to, and that will be enough heat for me! Tomorrow is supposed to be even worse, with possible TSs later, from all that humidity. Some went N of here last night, but none hit this are.

Well, they were right, it did get worse today! When I went out front at 9:00 in the morning (that is when that part is shaded), it was 88°, and 77° dewpoint, so it was already miserable. When I went out about 2:30 pm, I only stayed out about 45 minutes in the shaded area in the back, and was soaked when I got inside. When I checked the temp, it was up to 96° by then, and HI was 104° (both got 1° higher, before starting to creep down). It was breezy, but not as windy as earlier. I only picked one tomato, and only because it was the first ripe Green Brandy - many others I left for tomorrow! Still 94° and 100° HI at 7:30, so I'm not going out again. Now they say the humidity is coming way down tomorrow - even though the temp is still supposed to in the mid 90s, the "feels like" temp is supposed to be lower! Doesn't happen often around here.

Ick! I can certainly relate. I hope that today is better, as predicted.
Right now where I am, at just after 11am it's 90F with a HI of 105F. In theory we're getting more clouds and breeze later so this will be about as hot as it gets today. In theory - forecasts have been very inaccurate in my area the last few years. So I will have to wait and see what actually happens.

We are having those nice summer days we dream about in the winter! High of about 78 by afternoon, light breeze and sunny. Short shorts, tank top and flip flops -- smeared myself up with sunscreen and piddled around the garden, watering, some fertilizing, some weeding. This is the time of year I like best, when the hard work is done, and just maintenance tasks are left. And no insects! There are mosquitoes at night, but very few biting flies, no deer flies so far this year. I had only one day last week that one stable fly kept finding my bare legs. I cut most of my first crop of broccoli two days ago, with no cabbage worms, no frass, no leaf damage.
Tomorrow we will start to warm up to 80F, then a bit hotter each day to near 90 by Sunday. So far the humidity has been comfortable.

We got all our rain at once night before last. 2.47 inches--- The first 1.08 came in 19 minutes. As soon as it was over, I went out and picked all blushing tomatoes and yay!-- no splitting.

No rain forecast for the next ten days; the River is back in its banks; weeds have been pulled and grass is growing so that mowing is on the agenda...again. Typical mid-July.

Heh, the forecasters were wrong again. It was a 94 high with a heat index of 116 yesterday.
Today so far is of course hot but not as bad, temp of 90 with a heat index of 102 so far at ~1:30 pm.

That humidity was close to 100% here, too, as when I went out around 8:30 am, and everything thing was wet, and the temperature was up to about 80° (77° was the low overnight). I came back inside, since I don't do anything with the plants when they are wet. About 11 am it was already close to 90, and most of that dew had lifted, though it was still very humid - mid 70s for the dewpoint, and 97° high, with the HI 104°. I was out around 25, 40, and 30 minutes, in the different sections while they were in the shade. I can't imagine doing that in the sun, in this heat.

Earlier this morning I had a dewpoint of 80 (the morning low temperature was 81). This morning at 9 am it was already 90 with a heat index of 104 in my yard. Yuck. We are supposed to get a thunderstorm in a couple of hours, which should cool things off for a little while. I sure hope it shows up!

2 nights ago I got .34" of rain, and last night I got .12". Now the total is up to .49", at 1 pm, after one TS came through. It is still drizzling, on and off. It hasn't gotten much brighter at any point, just staying cloudy all day, with some more storms likely. Only 80°, so far, and not getting much hotter today, but staying super humid, and raining well into tomorrow.

Well, as usual, the rain that was predicted did not happen. After that .49" throughout the day yesterday, only .04" came overnight - it almost all went east, and some areas got 5" or more! Another humid day today, only getting to 88°, but back to the 90s Sunday.

It got up to 97° here, with a HI of 103°, yet I got more soaked yesterday, in about the same amount of time as I did today, even though it was 82°! That is because today there was wind, and lower humidity. Absolutely no wind movement yesterday, and 86% humidity, while I was out there. I don't think they factor in the wind (or lack of it) in "feels like" temperature.
Tomorrow we might hit 100° for the first time in 12 years in this area, and 110° heat index. I might stay in tomorrow, after making sure everything is ok.

The five day heat wave has moved east finally. Now it is more seasonable here, soon to be coming towards you. It is mid-July and mid-eighties for highs and 60s for lows is to be expected.

The heat must have come here! The temp got to 99° here today, and 105° or106° HI, depending on who you are watching. And tonight, the rain didn't look like it was coming to this area, but around 9:15 the sky opened up, and it's still raining some. So far, I've gotten 1.12". Tomorrow is when it's supposed to be worse.

After midnight, the lightning and thunder finally stopped about 12:45 am, though it was probably what was passing S of me, but close by. It only rained .07" after midnight, so it totaled 1.26" - the most I've gotten for a while. The ground was already dry, after those two recent rains I got, that totaled less than .5". That got the weeds growing, but when I weedwacked them a couple of days ago, I kicked up a cloud of dust! These two storms should water a little deeper.
We had some bad winds last night - 55-60 mph for the region. Some of my peppers and okra were on their sides, so I staked them up again, along with some others, in preparation for tonight. No damage to tomatoes or anything else, but I'll look closer, when they dry out.

We had thunderstorms off and on this morning, about 0.5" of rain here total. Which was needed, since the storms have been threatening but passing by with little or no rain lately. Because of the dense cloud cover this morning, although it has mostly cleared up this afternoon it has not been as hot as usual. The high was only around 90 and the HI below 100 for once.

I got no rain last night, which was forecast to be the worst night, and I didn't even hear any thunder nearby. Everything is still wet from the dew, at almost 11 am, due to the high humidity, but it is supposed to get much less humid today, for a change, and finally a day not in the 90s!

Overnight it rained enough to wet everything again, but not enough to register, and the dew would have wet everything, as well. The last two days the humidity was so high that the lawn and plants were still wet, late in the day. One more day of this, before a break tomorrow...hopefully.

Gorgeous day today - only reason I'm inside now is because for another 30 minutes or so the area in my garden I had left to work in is still in the sun, then it's in the shade - much of what I'm finished in, will be in the sun briefly again. It was only up to 83° today, and breezy, with very little humidity. Supposed to get a little warmer as the weekend goes on, but still low humidity.

93° out there now, with a dewpoint of 70°. Thunderstorms went south of here, which is typical, these days. The only good thing was the winds picked up, to make it bearable, but still not good. Seems the only natural water the plants have been getting for quite a while is the dew!

Though no rain came with it yet, around 6:30 pm it got very windy, and the temp dropped 5°, so far. I'm hearing thunder now, so I assume it's coming, question is, how much.
And by 7:50 pm, the temp had dropped all the way to 71° (from 91° when I was out earlier, with a 99° heat index), but still little rain - .13", so far, but more is forecast.

We are getting our first bit of rain from Tropical Storm (soon to be Hurricane) Debby just now. But we are on the weak side of the storm, and we are just outside all of the watch and warning areas. The worst of it will happen a long way east of me, and we are forecast to get maybe an inch or two of rain storm total and winds of only 15-20 mph. Obviously we're keeping up with all of the updates, though, because these systems sometimes seem to have a mind of their own. (And yes, the hurricane kit is stocked should we lose power.) But is sure looks like the worst effects of this storm will be flooding in Georgia and South Carolina later this week. I hope the flooding is not as severe as the NHC is predicting!

Today was another disgustingly humid day - 92° and 54% making the HI just over 100°. But while I was out at an appointment, briefly, fortunately, on my way back it rained just enough to to make it worse, not to water the plants! The humidity in my yard was 63%, when I got back, and still 92°, so the was close to 107°. When that rain started, I was wondering if the storms they had forecast were coming early, but it wasn't even enough to turn the wipers on for. Except, that is the law, no matter how light the rain.
