Ciao all-
Crazy silly weather here in Toronto. God seems to be testing me. Last Sunday, it was 12C, quite cool with rain, Tuesday was the hottest day of the year at 28C with a humidex of 41C, yesterday had sustained winds of 72 kmh with gusts up to 80 kmh, and today, it's 10C with a high of 19C. It has been a real challenge to keep all of my seedlings watered and protected from ths nightmare of a rollercoaster. I'll be ecstatic if I get most things into the ground before disaster strikes and I lose them.

Forecast was for 98F with cloud cover and chance of thunderstorms. Actual at 3:30PM 100F Heat Index 105F. No clouds. Definitely no thunder booms. I just got through mowing on the rider. A) Scalded butt on vinyl seat when I got on. I had on bluejeans. B) Lot of grass is dieing, but what is left is corded rope. C) Burnt fingers moving the bar-bq grill. No I haven't grilled in some days. D) Shirt is soaked through, while just riding around. E) Another tomato plant decided to look pretty dead overnight. I am convinced it is not a disease, but just giving in to heat. This is a Porter. Bred in Conroe just up the road for our climate. Go figure. F) I was watering a raised bed with a soaker hose that has a pinpoint leak. The water spritzes out of the pinhole. Several yellow jackets were landing on pepper and swiss chard leaves to sit in the spritz of water. Ummm, I think it may get hot today.

As I sit here typing, nature's music is playing. Hopefully, the symphony will provide liquid refreshment to go with it and the fireworks! We are getting awfully thirsty listening to the symphony....
Rain, Rain, come today for little children want to play!

I watered my squash/pumpkins in Hattiesburg saturday. It was 103. A lot of birds were having a fine time with the sprinkler though including the local bluebirds. Our best chance of rain is tomorrow.

The air is full of smoke in New Mexico. The smoke is from forest fires in Arizona. The sun was neon pink around 5pm because of the pall of smoke in front of it. Now the sky is an eerie dark grey. The temperature is in the low 90s. We had a thunder shower around mid-day. It cleared the air for a little while.

A fire out of control several days back close to the house here and this morning it was from a fire one county over...stinky and hazy. Adds that special touch to our hellacious temps

Rai-hey-hey-hey-ain!!! Two anna quarter inches. No rain since May here. More to come this afternoon when the high temp disturbs the atmosphere, and then back to "oppressive heat" and dry next week.

Organicbaby,
Our family went through forest fires and even evacuation for 10 days when we lived in SD. I'm sympathetic for y'all. After that experience, I smell smoke in the air before anyone else. Creates a panicky feeling...
